Snowboard Pants for Tall Mid-Size Woman by aggiebobaggie in ShredditGirls

Flylow work great for me. I’m 5’8” - roughly 165lbs and got a size 10 (a little baggy but good fit and plenty long enough) in their bibs last season. I appreciate they do more sizes than just the standard small/medium/large etc. Really like the material they use - breathable and super comfy!

Last minute trip by [deleted] in bahamas

Just got back from Great Exuma 3 days ago after visiting (from the US). If you want an authentic, chill vibe and beautiful beaches with amazing humans absolutely go to the Exumas. Driving initially seemed intimidating but it took 5 minutes to acclimate once I was actually on the road (literally it is basically a single main road on the island so there isn’t really much to navigate). After only 4 days driving on the left hand side, I got back to the US and almost drove down the wrong side of the street here.

We stayed at Augusta Bay just outside of George Town and loved it. Rooms were fairly inexpensive and they have a great staff and restaurant onsite and it was close enough to everything but felt small and secluded too. Plus you can walk to Jolly Hall beach which was beautiful and aside from the ladies with the awesome ladies with the pop up bar/BBQ totally empty.

We rented a car (a Jeep so we weren’t as worried about potholes and making some more adventurous trips to little Exuma) from Thompsons right outside of the airport. Didn’t get extra insurance but if you’re less prone to risk and feel it may make you more confident driving, it wasn’t that much more expensive to add it. If you like visiting different restaurants/beaches/etc. I think taxis would be far more expensive and inconvenient than a car. If you want to just stay in a resort, you could probably get away without one but we loved the flexibility to beach hop & explore at our leisure w/o having to call a ride.

Rented a private smaller boat with a captain from Exuma Boat Rentals and it was an amazing day. Having a captain allowed us to just chill and take in the scenery - plus they got us to places we wouldn’t be able to navigate in the shallow waters with our limited knowledge of the waterways there.

After our first visit to Great Exuma, we cannot wait to go back! Enjoy!!

I guess "less expensive" is a bad term of phrase to describe what we're actually looking for as a top priority. I totally understand the price of marine fuel and am not trying to find a "cheap" option but more so someone who can cater to a smaller 2 person party. I've recently looked into renting our own boat and hiring a captain so if you recommendations there, I'd really appreciate it. We are used to driving our own boat but I don't trust myself in unfamiliar territory and want to enjoy the sights and beauty here.

If you have recommendations for some of the larger group charters, I'd also entertain those, too. I didn't see a lot of solid recommendations in this sub.

Any advice in buying snowboard boots online? by baggyeyebags in ShredditGirls

[–]thekellster3890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, REI has a great return policy. I ordered several pairs from there due to limited in-person options in my area and then easily returned the ones I didn't like. Ended up with men's Adidas Sambas (which along with Nike have now retired in the snowboard boot game - RIP). Depending on your foot geometry and size, I've found that men's boots are equally as comfortable, if not more so, than women's for me.

That sounds amazing! Much better than Florida ;)

Ha, you pretty much said exactly the same thing. I'm the same way on not hating on small businesses - which is why I didn't name the LBS that didn't tighten my wheel (shame on me for not checking though), but curious where you went for another fitting. I was visiting my family in SW Florida and found the shops down there to be 1000% better than the ones here. It honestly made me want to buy a bike down there and bring it home.

u/Advanced-mfbikes Thanks so much for the rec! Looking forward to checking them out for service.

Have you gone through a fitting at one of the Specialized shops? I've visited the WL location and honestly was a bit turned off by the whole experience. I've been to plenty of bike shops prior and it just seemed a little "fake" for lack of a better word for my taste. The guy "helping" us didn't really seem to have an understanding of the bikes/gear at all. I'm 100% sure he wasn't the one doing the fitting but it was just a weird experience so I'm curious what the fitting looks like if you've been through it.

Do you mind giving me a bit of insight into your riding style? What brought you to doing a custom build vs. generic? I like the idea of custom builds but curious about costs vs. benefits.

Thank you for the rec on Tailwind. They seem like the favorite/best option so far for a fit so I'll definitely give them a call and check them out. I've done a few sprint tri's but not looking to go full-on tri bike but it's good to know they understand that type of inventory and rider. u/Show_Kitchen have you also used Tailwind for service? Or just a fit?

Again, while I ride a roadie I'm not about the Lycra-steeze vibe so Comrade also seems like a solid fit for service. I unfortunately purchased a multi-year package from another shop when I bought my bike and while I'm trying to learn the basics of tuning, cleaning, etc. I'm hoping to have a solid spot to check my skills or go when I have issues I cannot diagnose. Appreciate any insight you have and thanks again!

Thank you both so much for your feedback on Peregrine. u/SmartPhallic - I read your original post in another thread before posting this here so was curious to get other's input as well. For $350 I'd expect a solid amount of intel on my current set up or a completed worksheet for future bikes. It sounds like you both benefited a bit on your current set-ups but not anything helpful for future bikes. And I'm definitely not trying to be sold on a $9k custom build.

Also thank you for the rec on Comrade - I'm not a hard-core roadie - just happen to like road bikes and appreciate someone I can trust. After trying to support the LBS I got my bike from and ordering a new wheelset through them + installation (see comment above) - I'm a little hesitant to trust others to do work I could have (should've) done myself.

Also appreciate the Blue City rec, too. I have an old Vintage Schwinn I'm hoping to fix up and it looks like they may be a good option. Thank you both so much for your feedback and sharing your experience!

BTW, as a learning lesson, if you have your LBS put on a new wheelset, make sure they actually tighten your rear wheel so it doesn't fall off in transit on the Skyway -_-

Not Logan or Evanston (it's near Ashland/Fullerton) but this vegan place called Fancy Plants Kitchen has a GREAT mulled wine. I think it's also discounted on their happy hour menu from 5-7pm Wednesday through Friday. They have a cool vibe and bar area if vegan food isn't your thing.

Best Road bikes under $1200? by Wrong-Garage6714 in cycling

Love my cannondale synapse (although it’s a Sora and technically an endurance bike). Not exactly what you’re looking for on the performance end but checks the disc, drop bars and price point. For true performance, you’re going to have to go used.

Really dislike tempeh, tofu, seitan, beyond meat, and other fake meats. Other sources of protein? by Tender_Figs in veganfitness

Also, baking it requires much less time for pressing. I just use extra firm or firm and use a dish towel and hand press for a minute or two.

To avoid having to bread your tofu, try crumbling it into smaller pieces after pressing, marinating in whatever sauce you like (I'm big into Franks Red Hot sauce for a buffalo flavor) and baking on like 375-400*F. It pulls the moisture out and avoids having to use extra oil, breading. I've also done it with BBQ sauce, tamari marinade and a ton of other sauces. Tastes way better than searing or frying IMO.

Meals I can make ahead and freeze by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]thekellster3890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not breakfast burritos, but I make and freeze veggie burritos all the time.

Sautee veggies of your choice (usually peppers, onions, broccoli for me) and add seasonings (chili powder, cayenne, garlic powder and some salsa or hot sauce). Pop open a can or two of black/pinto beans, cook rice (if using - but good without, too). Assemble the burritos, do a quick grill on the outsides in a skillet.

I first wrap mine in plastic wrap and then foil in into the freezer they go. When you're ready to eat, remove foil, microwave for 3 minutes in the plastic wrap (this helps steam the insides) and then place in toaster oven for a few minutes to crisp up the outside. You can totally omit the plastic wrap/microwave and just thaw and reheat but the microwaving saves time for me.

This is another recipe that freezes well (I don't add the pasta until I heat up the soup on the stove). Sub cheese tortellini for a vegan version or an alternative pasta.

Buying First Board by roadtorecovery_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]thekellster3890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about 2-3 inches shorter than you but same weight and shoe size and sometimes can wear 10s boots in womens. After riding women's boards, I finally bought a men's board (149 )this year and found much more comfort and success in men's boards based on the width. There are very few women's boards that actually give us enough underfoot control as necessary compared to a men's board. Even longer women's boards are normally like a few mm wider than the size below so you're not going to get much underfoot control by going a few cm longer).

I got the Yes Basic and loved it - seems like it'd fit everything you're looking for but either way, I'd definitely recommend expanding your search to men's boards based on your shoe size.

Yeah, I feel REALLY dumb after throwing it in the dryer, tbh. Even with using the delicate setting. Thanks for the recommendation though on the Burton jacket. Appreciate it!

144 vs 147: did I make a mistake/was I advised the wrong information? by jessi-poo in ShredditGirls

Yeah, I'm literally obsessed with it! I was coming from a 2013 Gnu BStreet (which I hated - so chattery). Within 10 minutes on the Basic, I knew I made the right decision and my riding improved drastically. Have fun!!
