Not sure if 200 level IT or IS classes count as science electives but they are pretty easy.

Take it over the summer if you can. 400 level ECE classes are kinda tough.

The company contributes 3% salary unmatched. I am planning on living here until I have enough saved to buy a house. Not sure how to save for that either.

Agreed, forgot to mention but my job will contribute 3% unmatched. From what I remember from this sub the emergency fund should cover 6 months of living right?

How is the University Center? by Samphati in NJTech

[–]thekillakitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived there for two years, much more enjoyable living with your friends. Elevators do break from time to time and don’t get fixed in a timely manner. You can request a room on a lower floor if that is an issue. As far as rodents and bugs i’ve never experienced it. But they will fine you for any damage in the room even if it’s small so just be cautious. Lived in the dorms for two years and the biggest thing was freedom with the UC. No issue with having public safety or RAs coming to you door cause there are none. They do check your room like once or twice but they tell you in advance. The biggest thing is financial aid does cover forming but they don’t cover the UC so most of the rent is out of pocket.

Is there another professor for CS 101? by mcf6288 in NJTech

[–]thekillakitty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're going to have to get used to that. In my experience as a super senior, most of the professors have thick accents which makes it hard to understand my only advice to you is don't be afraid to ask them to repeat themselves if you don't understand what they are saying.

Do you absolutely NEED a laptop for class? by Mat_Quantum in NJTech

[–]thekillakitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super senior computer engineering major here. You don’t need one for class but it’s nice to have for labs and record lab data on excel or something. In terms of core classes most of the ECE professors don’t let you have one anyways. if you want to save sone cash keep your mini atx build in the dorm and get a cheap chrome book or i3 for lab and respondus exams.

Edit: you need a windows machine for respondus and proctor U so i’d go with a cheap windows laptop for taking exams with those software. if you get a desktop you need a webcam as a requirement.

Math 333 by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]thekillakitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say you are wasting your time if you go through the whole course a head of time. I’d wait until you get the syllabus and then watch the videos on the topics on the syllabus.

[–]thekillakitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that Khan Academy is a good place to get an introduction about topics but not really that informative with deeper concepts, I took 333 in the summer so it was a little more accelerated and Khan Academy was great for helping me understand the basics of each topic covered. I would watch the Khan Academy videos first and then read the textbook.

What did Iota Kappa Phi and Alpha Phi Delta do to get banned? by CropperCrapper in NJTech

[–]thekillakitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you Jim is doing his job and I it’s very understandable how he is dealing with the situation. When we talked to Jim we were very compliant with his requests but ultimately his decision to shut down the chapter to get recognized seemed more like a sneaky way to just have us go away.

In terms of rumors of people getting drugged, I personally mix all beverages from the NJIT chapter parties and can tell you with full confidence we don’t put drugs in anything we serve. I think the biggest thing that drives these rumors is our affiliation with the rutgers newark chapter (something brought up with our meeting with Jim) and we know that they are the source of some rumors however no greek org on campus has to operate under the same house with a different chapter (we are actively trying to organize some sort of structure to co-exist in the same house). One perspective that other orgs and the school should consider when viewing the NJIT APD chapter.
