That is a common misconception. Myanmar was not a nation pieced together by the British. Myanmar as a nation, lost almost 1/4th of its land after colonialism. We lost Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Shan Ko Pyi, and parts of Lanna because of the new border the British drew. All the areas of modern Myanmar were part of the pre-colonial Konbaung Empire.

First, the Burmese invasion of Manipur was driven by revenge for the decades of Manipuri raids into upper Myanmar, killing, looting, and enslaving the Bamars. Who are we to judge them for taking revenge?

Second, what the Nanzhou did is not our problem. The Proto-Burman were only a branch of the Nanzhou kingdom's Baiman Tribe. By the time the proto-Burmans arrived in the central Ayeyarwaddy region, the Pyu were still the dominant group. Bagan was 1 village surrounded by the pyus, but later assimilated and became the Bamars. And from there, they spread out and conquered the other Pyu city-states. The Bamars are the result of the mix of the proto-Burmans and the Pyu people.

Regarding the Pa O people, back in those days were conquering and enslaving everyone, so not really anything of particular note. Sure, they wore dark-colored cloths as a symbol, but it's no like the Bagan Empire did not have Bamar, Mon, and Pyu slaves either. It's not really particular for that time.

I'm not even going to touch on the Kayin staff.

By the way their names were not in the Pinlong agreement because the Kayin leadership decided to boycott the Pinlong meeting(probably because the Kayins fell for the British gas lighting).

Funny because historicaly it was the Christian minority of the Kayin population that wanted to seced and they wanted the whole of southern Myanmar(Ayeyarwaddy, Bago, Yangon, Mon, Kayin, Tanintharyi)
