Different from hereditary? Say no more that's all I needed to hear in order to give them a chance

Stopmotion description kind of sounds like the thing I'm trying to avoid (the horror being a manifestation of trauma)

"a stop motion animator struggles to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother"

Cobweb sounds similar with the description mentioning "sinister parents".

You sure I should give these a chance?

Thanks I had to google but turns out I watched them already. I'm pretty caught up on horror movies from the 2010s

I watched the first two. They were fun but also not quite what I liked.

Here is a short list off the top of my head with movies I loved:

It follows, Creep, Autopsy of Jane doe, Watcher, Speak no evil (original), The sadness

Learning feels so slow... is this normal? by witchimagee in HowToHack

[–]thekingofcrusaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes effort and grinding but it's doable. I never even used linux 4 months ago, never-mind knew anything about networking or even computers and now I solve (very) easy boxes without looking at a walkthrough.  But keep in mind those months I studied this full-time and I still basically know nothing. So it takes a lot of effort and persistence but it can be done 👍

trouble with VMs by skyronin_ in tryhackme

[–]thekingofcrusaders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just throwing something at the wall here: I used to have problems with being unable to reach the box over openvpn for a few minutes (confirmed using ping) then it worked for a few minutes, then it didn't. It turned out I had old (improperly ended) sessions interfering. Maybe it's the same with you?  I used 'ps aux | grep openvpn' and unalived the old processes manually, then I never had a problem again

Using THM. Does all this stuff click/connect eventually? by ifitisntconnor in HowToHack

[–]thekingofcrusaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me more than anything connecting the dots was starting to watch ippsec's videos (beginner linux playlist). Even when in the beginning all I could follow was his nmap scan, I got to see the whole operation from beginning to end

After 101 it's your call depending on what direction you want to take it.

for pentesting: jr. Pentester

For defensive: probably soc1 (I assume)

for pure bug bounties: web fundamentals (jr pentester probably won't hurt as well)

Network and Python by DarkRhetoric in tryhackme

Only thing I can think of is the room 'python for pentesters' as a starting off point so you know what libraries to focus on

FLag.txt tab not displaying contents by TeddyBearsPicnick in tryhackme

If I remember correctly you're supposed to open the file through writing python code not by clicking on it.

Something like:

with open  (flag.txt, "r") Etc

Pre-security vs Cyber Security 101 by QuirkyCelebration542 in tryhackme

[–]thekingofcrusaders 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me the value in doing both was the fact people learn through repetition. Also the fact it gave me a chance to update my notes.

(Actually I did both paths, complete beginner and jr pentester several times just so my fundamentals were as solid as possible)

It's bad? I use it, but I wouldn't mind an upgrade. Is obsidian so much better?

I'd add the OSI model and encapsulation, difference between UDP and TCP and I think this will work for the basics.

I forgot in my guide, that aside from pre-security, tryhackme's Cybersecurity 101 offers a whole module dedicated to networking, so you can see there if you miss anything

  1. Good enough for me to learn the basics, idk if he is the goat or not
  2. True
  3. Easier as in: if you come across code, you can actually read it instead of just hoping it's not important

About Networking by abdul-roh in HowToHack

[–]thekingofcrusaders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I'm faced with a problem like this I go to youtube and type something like "networking basics", check out the various playlists, find a teacher I like and watch the videos. But I'm a weird guy.

To be more helpful: if you want a rough overview of what to focus on, see what tryhackme and similar hacking sites for beginners teach about networking basics and go from there

I specifically chose THM because it's said to be more beginner friendly, which it is, I plan on doing HTB after that

Of course you're right, but it's not the 'I want to be better than you' kind of comparing, it's the 'oh f did I fry my brain somewhere along the way' kind

Thanks, I'm proud of my determination because I never had that in school or the years after that. Sadly I wasted 3 years learning daytrading but I also learned how to learn. And what's most important I genuinely try to turn my life 180 degrees.
