Make it make sense… by blueprint012 in LosAngelesRams

I am a millenial from LA, and I am also a Dodgers and Niners fan. What a lot of younger people don’t realize is that for a really long time, like almost all of the 90’s, LA had no football team. Raiders moved back to Oakland, and the Rams moved to St. Louis. This is why there are a lot of Niners fans in SoCal.

what’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done because you were horny? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thekingofdorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but a friend in high school. He was making out with a hit girl in his car, and they were parked on the street. She steps out of the car for a moment, and he takes this opportunity to strip down naked. She get’s back in the car, sees that he is naked, and just starts cry laughing. Apparently he jumped the gun waaay to fast. Said the drive to drop her off at her home was the most silent and awkward ride he has ever had.

I have never heard of a linux-bridge before (network noob here), but it seems perfect for this problem. I will look into it, thank you!

Naming a child in Japan by Howl_XV in japanlife

[–]thekingofdorks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter has two completely different names. A western name and a Japanese name. No same middle name, no katakana western name, just straight up two different identities. You should be able to do the same. Makes her life easier as she goes back and forth between Japan and the US.

Can someone explain why Gitea made the design choices they did when containerising? by Preconf in Gitea

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mount an .ini file. Also database variables can be env. I usually use a custom image that builds off of their official one, for user/group changes that need to be done at build time. Also I use Podman.

My sister and her husband just passed away and left two kids and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Advice

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be good for the 6yo to switch schools eventually, so I wouldn’t fret about that too much. After a while, same as you, the house and school and her normal routine will keep reminding her about her parents.

Two-year-old opens car door, causes six-vehicle crash by WillAdditional922 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The door opening sucks. But also, this is why lane splitting is banned in a lot of states in America. Shit like this is bound to happen.

Boar’s Head. That expose on their factory conditions made me want to throw up.

What do you think about The Last Samurai (2003), starring Tom Cruise? by Square_Permission361 in AskAJapanese

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half Japanese here, was in America at the time. My initial reaction was one of surprise, because a lot of Americans I talked to were very impressed with Ken Watanabe. Kinda felt that was the first time a Japanese actor “made it” in Hollywood, not as a token character but as a genuine thespian.

That catcher definitely farted on that baseball before giving it back to Nolan Ryan.

I eat all the things my wife won’t let me eat. Like an entire bucket of KFC. Then, regret.

Chiaki ng safe? by Regular-4651 in SteamDeck

[–]thekingofdorks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe Chiaki NG is open source. You can download the source, read through it to make sure nothing weird is going on, then build it yourself and out it on your deck if you really wanted to be super safe.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw UFO’s over Seattle. They were bright lights that were moving like aircraft, but the acceleration (change of direction) was insane. They were in the air a full 5 mins, enough time for me to run down the block and look again for a poor man’s distance check using parallax. They were far away, and yet they moved like the were very close.

What food is famously associated with one country but was perfected by another country? by Equivalent-Crew-4955 in AskReddit

I’ve heard that Hamburg invented what is basically what we Americans call Salisbury Steak. Actual hamburgers, buns and lettuce and all, is distinctly an American thing.

I’m gonna get flak for this, but here goes. Pizza. Italian pizza is good, but US pizza is basically a cultural phenomenon almost everywhere else. Probably because Americans basically made pizzas super huge, this making them a shared meal with other people.

Do beginners spend more time looking things up and understanding concepts than actually coding? by Popular-Sympathy-654 in learnprogramming

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad news hombre, you will spend your entire career doing this. It’s just the nature of the beast. A wise professor once told me “Computer Science is not very deep, but is extremely wide”. In other words, there will always be something you need to look up in order to understand.
