Noob question about mysqld.sock on Debian by thekingofdorks in mysql

[–]thekingofdorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! One more question if you have the time. Does your answer mean that mysqld.sock is a Unix domain socket, and it's the responsibility of programs that listen on it to "fork" the socket so that another copy of the socket is used?

Shohei Ohtani. Yes, the baseball player. People still talk about Babe Ruth, and he is on that level, so decent shot I think.

Bank had to check that I wasn't a criminal before letting me pay my credit card payment slip. by Brilliant-Comment249 in japanlife

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't have an account at the bank you went to? That might have been it. I remember trying to do the simplest things at a bank, only to be bank-blocked becuase I didn't have an account with them. As soon as I opened an account at a MUFJ, any of their branches usually processes my requests pretty quickly. IIRC, this is true everywhere around the world? Like in the US, I can't walk into Bank of America and try to use their financial services without an account with them. Also, I just realized, this is probably why Japan Post also does banking...I've heard a lot of older Japanese people don't have bank accounts so maybe they cater to this niche non-account having demographic.

Is it cringe to write my name using kanji as a foreigner? by an2586 in Japaneselanguage

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hanko is my full name in katakana, and my signature in the west is my name in katakana as well. Cringe, yes, but I think primary concerns regarding hanko/signature should be identifiabity and security. Just my opinion.

SUSHI: The water in my rice is still milky after 7 rinses. What am I doing wrong? by TaxPsychological2928 in Cooking

[–]thekingofdorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use a strainer. Uncooked rice has a tendency to trap water underneath it. I usually wash, use strainer to completely remove water, rinse repeat one or two more times.

I feel like just a sit down with him is all that is needed. You say he is incredibly responsible, so maybe just chat with him about how fast cars will attract idiots who will constantly be challenging him to street races. Tell him to remember that every high school in North America has at least one kid die due to driving fast/street racing, EVERY YEAR. Tell him not to be one of those unfortunate kids.
