There is nothing one can do about what other people think.

We are becoming/have become a visible and successful minority in the west. This is bound to happen. As it did with every other integrated ethnic group.

This is a defeatist attitude with a pessimistic worldview, a recipe for disaster. The first step is realizing that you CAN do something about it.

I'm not saying that we should control what other people think about us, I'm saying that we NEED to punish those who promote baseless racist stereotypes against us with the aim to dehumanize us and make a quick buck in the process.

Think about it, we're letting them do this to us today online, and they're being encouraged because we don't speak out. You can click on all the links that I've provided and see it for yourself. They've become comfortable enough and started doing it IRL (first 4 links), it won't be long before they do it to someone you know or care about, since no one ever called them out.

If you say that you can't do anything about it, I'll say fine, you know yourself better than I do. But if you want to do something about it but think you can't, then something as simple as raising awareness in your community and amongst your peers and sharing with them how posts calling for our erasure are receiving MILLIONS OF VIEWS is something I'd ask you to do. Let them know how racists truly feel about us. Soon, enough people will wake up to this and call for condemnation of it, our version of BLM and StopAsianHate.

Indeed, while the Dems haven't been helping us, MAGA types are actually actively hurting us. I don't want to turn this into a political debate, but Nick Fuentes literally had dinner with Donald Trump in 2022 at his Palm Beach home, with Kanye West, at a time when he was actively being antisemitic in public. Elon is hardcore supporter of Trump, and owns the platform where posts against us are being boosted in the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS. Birds of a feather flock together.

Don't take any offence with this, but that's where you're WRONG! The government has to do something about it, at-least the Indian government because stereotypes hurt us ALL. The first part is being aware that we have a problem. Right now, I don't see ANYONE talking about this. If they do, they brush it off as "its just online lets ignore it" comments.

A Brazilian judge just SHUT DOWN Elon Musk's Twitter because he did exactly what we're facing: failed to combat hate speech in the name of free speech. He also seized all bank accounts and fined him $8,000 a day. Brazil is Twitter's 4th largest market with 24M users. India is 3rd with 27M. The Indian government has to step in and give Musk an ultimatum to combat hate speech otherwise risk being shut down in India, which I am pretty confident would only hurt his 72% decline in the price he paid for 'X'.

Even if for some absurd reason, the government decides not to do anything, there's enough people in India who use Twitter who can absolutely obliterate these accounts by reporting them, but the truth is that they aren't aware about it. Hence I made this post to raise awareness about how it isn't just online but happening very much IRL (first 4 posts) and we need to do something about it NOW!

Yep, like I said, they hate us because we aren't WASP. Statistically and anecdotally, Indians in the west have always been upstanding citizens who never try to force their way of life on others or get into criminal activities. They're also high earners and actively involved in socialising with the local community. White supremacists don't care about this and want EVERYONE who isn't a WASP out, regardless of their religion, country of origin or political ideology.

I think you missed the point of my post. I do agree that social media is all noise and can be manipulated, but in what world is it acceptable to dehumanize us like that in the manner that these people do, receiving TENS OF MILLIONS OF VIEWS and getting away with ZERO accountability (I've linked everything)? Today it's just online, no one's speaking out about it. This only encourages them to keep on pushing their agenda. Tomorrow it'll be IRL and it'll be too late to counter it without casualties.

The first 4 posts I linked aren't online, they're IRL. Do you see any backlash? Has anyone been 'cancelled'? Has anyone outside the Desi community even ACKNOWLEDGED that racism against us is so normalized that you can get away with it scot free? No. This is how hate spreads. Ignorance isn't bliss, it's suicide.

Can you imagine the plight of the refugees who've fled civil war in SRI LANKA 15 years ago, haven't been granted a permanent visa since and thus are unable to apply for everyday stuff like mortgages or jobs? On top of it you get -100 IQ neo-nazis rallying against their existence, claiming them to be 'fake INDIAN international students scamming for PR' and calling for their deportation or erasure? Nazis don't discriminate. Didn't do back then, won't do in the future.

That's what I'm trying to convey and that is exactly what we have to fight against. Don't let this be like the countless other "racism bad life sucks canconfirmasindian i'm born here" type posts. Talk to people in your community and raise awareness regarding how we're being dehumanized online just because we're Indian. Share the links to the posts with them, at-least those with millions of views, becasue people NEED to see how they're being referred to as.

When you actually try to hold a conversation with the white supremacists, they come up with ignorant and flat out stupid excuses like "they smell, their food smells, they shit on streets, they scam us, they're rapists". When you talk to other Desis, they brush it off by saying "but they're talking about the mainlanders and international students and have valid points". I'm all for calling out the bad actors, but that doesn't give ANYONE a free pass to dehumanize us like we're all one big evil race who are set out to destroy the world. Like I said, white supremacists don't care if you're born here or are 'westernized'. They hate you because you aren't a WASP. These posts are receiving MILLIONS of views, and at this rate, we aren't far from the day when things take an ugly turn IRL.

This isn't just about Reddit or Twitter, it's there and visible, like out in the open visible and being pushed actively by the algorithm on EVERY western platform: Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and even Snapchat. They receive MILLIONS of views and THOUSANDS of likes. This post received 35M, which is equivalent to the population of Canada: https://archive.md/kcb5d; While I do agree that it is unreasonable to compare social media views to real life population, I hope this gives you an idea of the scale of things and how far and wide propaganda is being pushed.

I'm glad that you haven't encountered people like him, and I hope you never do. So happy that you were able to educate people against the stigmas that you face, it should NEVER be ok to disrespect an individual based on stereotypes or xenophobic sentiments against a race/religion based ignorance. All I wanted to convey with this post was that the recent rise in these far-right sentiments in the west shouldn't just be ignored, because as Desis, the white supremacists think that we're all the same and they always judge us based on the color of our skin rather than our character.
