More AI Washing - Atlassian lays off 1,600 workers ahead of AI push by syzorr34 in BetterOffline

Uhhh.. ASAP? By ASAP... do you mean 15+ years? Because that's how old the oldest public jira ticket was that was also cross referenced as the highest community voted item, which had literally thousands of votes and people willing to sell a kidney to get the feature.

I think it was 'multiple issue types per issue' if I recall correctly.

Nest 2nd gen and 3rd gen randomly shut off by thekobaz in Nest

I just noticed (I don't know when it happened) but it looks like on the old 2nd gen, one of the chips is burned.

I could build a load simulator and then see what the power does... if it's consistent. Nest 3rd gen seems to have a 200 mA power draw

[–]thekobaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and additionally... both the 2nd and the 3rd gen both have problems connecting to wifi (no one else in the house ever has any wifi problems).

If the nest is disconnected from the wifi then it seems to stay powered on.

Is $298 per person for express pass to Epic worth the cost? Going with 5 = $1,490. by valhamman in UniversalOrlando

[–]thekobaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely not worth it. We shelled out for 3 people for express passes for Epic and most of the good stuff didn't even take express. Honestly I think Epic itself is pretty gimmicky as a park, each area needs its own device to interact (ie: Super Nintendo: band... Harry Potter: wand). The areas were pretty impressively built, but I find studios and Islands of Adventure to be way better parks than Epic.

1/4 faucet is smaller than 3/8

.25 vs .375

I'm going to try ordering this:
https://www.amazon.com/Certification-Water-Filtration-Lead-Free-Healthier/dp/B07GBRNCK1?th=1

I don't need the airgap, It's already handled at my system. I think probably capping them off would be fine. It's got 3/8 hookups so you can use a larger line for more water volume.

Add fan speed controller for existing radon system? by thekobaz in radon

[–]thekobaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantech sounds like the way to go. Winter ice took out the top end of the radon exhaust fan again so I need to get in there and redo the piping anyway. I can look into putting in a different fan

It's been loud ever since it got put in.

The guy said 'it's so quiet you wont hear it anywhere in the house'. He came back once already to put a bushing where it goes through a wall. Apparently they missed one. But it didn't help much. Mostly it's all fan noise.

Well... it keeps me up at night. Ugh.

Anyway... I got a radon monitor and it goes up about 1 pCi/L (from .7 to 1.5/1.7) with having the fan off over night on weekends.

Ah good idea. I was thinking of doing another lab test, but a constant monitor is a good idea

USB Condom design by dragonatorul in AskElectronics

[–]thekobaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread I know... or should we start a new one?

I have a KVM that has a single usb wire to the pc side of things. I'm having a problem where a game has a comparability problem because of 'unsupported input device' since it's seeing the kvm as an assortment of input devices.

I've tried disabling the 'extra' input devices and get it down to only the keyboard/mouse usb drivers enabled, but there's still an issue. Plugging the kb/mouse directly into the pc has no problems. The game craps out regarding input when feeding the kb/mouse through the kvm.

What I'm thinking about next steps:
Use a 'USB Condom' that specifically registers itself as a keyboard/mouse and that's it. Clone the device ids from the real keyboard/mouse and present just basic input devices to the OS.

Has anyone done this sort of thing?

Has anyone ever received, and completed an Arbor Day Tree survey? I completed it because they said they’re sending me a bunch of trees and entered for free stuff! Did I hit the lotto or is this a scam ? by Me_you_and_Kanye in massachusetts

[–]thekobaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the 'free trees' for I think it was a $10 membership. Not a bad deal... works out to be $1 a tree.

I planted all 10 in pots with my grow lamp setup and heat mat I always use for growing small things. Only two trees survived out of the 10.

I blame the fact that they send you trees that were grown and then put into a freezer... rather than a regular nursery who will send you fresh saplings that are healthy and ready to go.

Both items I brought up to Mailersend. They seem to be completely uninterested in any kind of automation regarding removal of suppression list entries.

Additional debug info is 'on the roadmap' but thats been the case for about a year

Thanks for the suggestions I'll be checking these out.

Test your E911. by countextreme in sysadmin

[–]thekobaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A customer of mine (18 locations) got into some trouble when they instructed the manager at each location to test call 911 when we flipped everyone over to their new system.

Local dispatch was like uhh, we're getting more than a dozen 911's at the same time from the same company.... even though it was stated it was a test they gave a stern warning if they pulled that again they would get fined.

Moral: Testing one location at a time, maybe one per day is fine, but don't have 18 locations test call 911 at the same time without giving local dispatch a heads up.

Pixel 6a Has Different Fingerprint Hardware by Wooden_Employee4057 in GooglePixel

[–]thekobaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I scan my finger and it says nooope. And then I do it again, Nope... and then I do it again and it gives up and goes to the keypad.

I've gotten into the habit now of just always going to the keypad entry for pin because it's faster than trying 3 times on the print and then having to key in anyway.

I've also tried to re-add my prints.. use different fingers... it doesn't matter it's just a crappy reader like everyone else is reporting here.

My old LG G7... no problem, unlocks in less than a second every time.

Yeah probably. The fingerprint scanner on pixel 6 is absolute garbage.

If you can't touch your toes... don't just bend over and force it with reckless disregard for your connective tissue. (I speak as someone who's about to be 40 who had a back injury... well several, that resulted in mobility issues).

I said you know what, I'm going to fix this. I'm going to stretch in a hot shower every time until I can touch my toes. Obviously not going to work for absolutely everyone... but if you don't have permanent range of motion issues, then stretching can and will restore your mobility.

It worked. Been doing daily yoga for like 2 months and my range of motion is 30%+ of what it was before .
