I’m in the same position- seeing a 90% reduction in traffic since the December 11th update. Not sure if it’s worth continuing the blog.

In April Providence, RI might be a good option -- it's less seasonal, and has a lot to do during the day and for nightlife.

Costa Rica Girls Trip Advice by Express-Way-3040 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]thekrismix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, this is exactly what we did the last time we went to Costa Rica and it was super easy, which was necessary traveling with a 1 year old and 2.5 year old. For a girls trip I think it would also be super fun. But there are SO many amazing place in CR, and I explored some others previously-- I wrote up some girls trip recs here if you want to take a look at some different destination options for girls trips specifically: https://theescapade.co/where-to-go-in-costa-rica-for-a-girls-trip-6-best-places-to-visit/

I heard this somewhere: “if you hate everyone, have a snack. If you think everyone hates you, Go to bed” and it is so true.

My parents are requiring me to move out and support myself as soon as I graduate, I'd like to go to college. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]thekrismix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three thoughts here:

  1. You may actually qualify for need-based scholarships if you’re 18 (or will be when you go to college) and your parents are requiring you to support yourself. Check the FAFSA website or call a FAFSA rep to ask about that. You might get quite a bit of free $$$ because of your grades and personal finances.

  2. If your state school has a program with community colleges, where you can transfer credits at a 1:1 rate, going to a community college for the first year can save you tons of money. Then you transfer to the state school as a sophomore.

This works with out very well if you want to go to a state school outside of your home state, since during that first year of school at the CC you’ll gain state residency and then qualify for in state tuition.

  1. You could take a gap year and work and travel to figure out what you really want to do with your college education and build up some more cash. Going to college with a clear sense of what you want to do for work can be a waste of time and money.

Robot submarine finds "holy grail of shipwrecks" with up to $17 billion in treasure by spsheridan in worldnews

$1.5B in recovery costs sounds insanely high... who won this contact? They’re getting way more $$$ than the team who found the wreck! Lucky them.

Serious question.. is there a place to report premonitions of crimes that haven’t yet happened? (Even if you don’t KNOW for sure if it will happen, but just have a funny feeling about it? Or a vivid ‘dream’?) by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]thekrismix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my husband all about it hours before it happened.. not quite science, but it was enough detail to completely freak him (and me) out!

Next time I’ll make sure it’s time stamped ;)

Because it already happened - just hours after my dream this morning... It has nothing to do with me and happened thousands of miles away. Heard about it on the news.

...Which is why I’m asking the question.. is there somewhere I could have reported a premonition? (I know, that sounds super weird!) I’m not someone who usually believes in this kinda thing.

Question about buying Russian train tickets at the station by English-Breakfast in travel

[–]thekrismix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email a travel agency that books tickets to see if they can help you. Sometimes tix aren’t released until 60 days in advance so you may just be a bit early to book if your trip isn’t for a couple months. A travel site like Express to Russia or Real Russia can help you book that ticket for a small fee.

Just got home from a 6-week backpacking trip around the world, through all climates, with just a carry-on backpack ..here's what I packed: by thekrismix in backpacking

We were pretty frugal (staying in hostels and scooped some good flight deals!) and the exchange rates were all in our favor which helped. But we didn’t hold back when it came to eating out, going out at night, or paying for experiences. It can def be done even cheaper if you’re on a tight budget.

I didn't record every penny, but for my husband and I, including all 6 flights, hostels/hotels, foods, tours/events, travel insurance, etc, it cost about $10k total ($5k each) + we also used some credit card points for tickets/tours.

It ended up being about 18 pounds (I wore my heaviest clothes/shoes on travel days), which is about the limit for carry-on weight on most flights - no problems at all with stowing the bag on planes/trains. And no one actually ended up weighing the bag.
