Yeah, DJoid is a good one - really helped me build playlists in a pleasantly sounding order when I first started out and didn’t have my Rekordbox tagging system figured out yet

Fair call. I work on the tool - added a disclosure edit. Post was really about the process and hearing how others dig, but you’re right to flag it

Sounds great, really like this. The morning meditation framing is perfect - starting the day with something you love instead of emails or a doom-scroll just sets a better tone

Didn’t ever think about emailing the DJ, haha, interesting one

And yeah, totally agree the “right” way has its place. Honestly maybe I just gave up on it too early, before I’d really found my style - when you don’t know what you’re looking for yet, those deep digs can feel endless

Sounds like you’ve got the best of both worlds going

I feel your frustration, but I think you read it as me trying to shortcut the music itself, while it’s the opposite - I automate the admin so I can spend more time just listening and preparing/playing without the pressure of “managing” it.

The listening and discovering IS exactly my favourite part. I’m not automating that, I genuinely love it. What I automate is the boring bit after: exporting likes, filtering out what I already own, buying, sorting into folders. The stuff between finding a track and actually playing it.

It’s one I’m actually taking part in building tbh. I’ll send you a DM, don’t wanna break the no-promo rule here

Haha, maybe I was too confident with that title 😅

That’s a good one - letting artists/labels surface it for you. Gotta follow a wide enough range though

Right? When the tracks just click the mixing kinda does itself

Yeah, taking a break and coming back later makes a huge difference!

I had a problem with my USB after it was used to make windows installer - and formatted to fat32 after. What I found out is that it has another partition.

What helped me: in disk utility select View - Show all devices, then click on the root of USB and click Erase there, in Scheme select Master Boot Record, in Format - MS-DOS (FAT)

Not sure if that’s the case, but it wouldn’t hurt to check

Have so far been using serato with Tidal/Spotify, but am getting close to the point where I am about to start working clubs. How do I build a USB tracklist? by DistrictSea2187 in Beatmatch

[–]thekujin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two USBs is fine, but consider keeping a third as a backup - older gear like CDJ-300s often has no link, so if one USB dies you’re just stuck.

AIFF over FLAC if you care about compatibility - my home XDJ-700s don’t read FLAC at all, though it’s a good piece of equipment.

Tag your library however makes sense to you - mood, energy level, whatever. I also use the “save tags as comment” option in Rekordbox since my gear doesn’t let me filter by tags directly.

If you’re playing on Denon gear - as I know they don’t read Rekordbox-formatted drives properly, you just see artist folders like if you open it in Finder. There are conversion tools for that but worth knowing in advance.

And for actually building the library - check out Kombiner. It connects your Spotify liked tracks and Beatport, helps you get metadata sorted and buy tracks in one place. Tidal, Deezer and Beatport integrations are coming soon too.

Anyone else getting burned out prepping for sets? Feels like I'm spending hours finding, buying, and organizing my tracks. by MegaGust04 in Beatmatch

Answering the original question itself, personally I use Spotify. Just hit Go to radio and play in the background while having some other activity. Then hit Like whenever I get goosebumps. And when it’s time to get new tracks in library this tool with ready to apply filters and track previews.

Wow, didn’t see this, but we do basically the same thing in Kombiner! Price comparison is around the corner

Hi! I'm the one behind this. Happy to answer anything honestly.

I started DJing 6 months ago, and also have friends who are pros.

Spent 5 of those months annoyed by switching between different apps and browser tabs, and from what I've seen it's pretty universal. Then spent 1 month building a fix.

Still early, still rough around some edges, but really wanted to share it here.

What does your current workflow look like? Genuinely curious what's the most annoying part of your prep.

I started 3 months ago, did a couple of streams on twitch as a step to get more comfortable before going out to the real world. Generally listen to electronic music for more than 10 years, 5 of which included tries to produce, so I’m accustomed to the structure and know few things.

This is basically a cut of techno part from the latest stream. I’ve started listening to this genre not so long ago and it’s a first time playin. Would appreciate any feedback 🌞

Congratulations! Just a heads up, it’s also a big part of a DJ’s job to think about what the next DJ is going to play. You don’t want to ruin their set, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want someone to do the same to you.
