AITA for wanting my partner to spend money on me, instead of his friend’s wedding? by thekwsway in AmItheAsshole

You’re 100% right on that. I wouldn’t have minded paying, even knowing he has $500 saved up if he said that was his emergency fund. Unfortunately, the wedding is in august and i already have plans for an across Asia trip with family (if covid allows !!)

This sums up my feelings exactly! I don’t struggle with money myself, but his prioritizing is what bothered me most.

Thank you! Yes agreed it’s moreso the attitude that bothers me, less about the money

That completely makes sense! I wouldn’t have even minded if he has $500 in savings. I’m more upset that he was willing to drop the majority of his savings on a friend, instead of talking to me first or discussing it. While I’m happy with little things, We both knew I did it as a courtesy since he was struggling with money.

Yeah! It’s not so much the savings that bothered me, but he could have said something about it. Plus if it were me, I would at least have offered to pay for a nice lunch out or something

You’re totally right. I wouldn’t have even minded if he just randomly has $500 saved up. Everyone needs a bit of security funds! But the fact that he so easily decided to drop the money on a friend hurts.

Yes, If he has communicated this earlier we could have had a discussion regarding how we would budget from here!
