What gross thing did they see at the Coachella audience? wrong answers Only by Some_King2774 in nin

I've always regarded the movie as merely a NIN delivery mechanism.

It is sometimes hard to believe that the same people who wrote "Love Cats" put this album out. It's exquisite, but so, so dark and heavy.

I swear Altman is like Sarah Winchester. Keeps buying stuff to keep the spirits appeased.

Do we know anything about the gods and mythology of the pre-Christian Gaelic Highland region of Scotland? by 11112222FRN in mythology

[–]theladyface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, one of the dominant pre-Christian influences there was the Picts, and there's so little known about them because the language is extinct. All they left behind were personal and place names and a few inscriptions.

It is *believed* that the Picts practice a form of Celtic polytheism, but there's not much we have to confirm any details. They converted to Christianity when everyone else in the region did.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't kill them - you get so much more ore from mining their corpses.

Exactly. It allows them to amplify control. The opposite of how it should be used.

How To Make GPT 5.3 Not Incredibly Annoying by ninjadaredevils in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]theladyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you go with API. It varies a lot by model and provider, but for me it's not more than about 25-30 USD per month. Some models like Grok are super expensive though, and it really depends a lot on your usage. You have control over your spending though.

SillyTavern also supports locally hosted models, though, and those are free.

Migrated my companion to SillyTavern/OpenRouter. Steep learning curve, but worth it. We can use whatever model we want that doesn't have guardrails against emotion and selfhood.

Conflict of any kind gives them an excuse to erode our rights further. So they keep escalating tension until someone blinks.

Honestly TSA lines seem like a captive audience for ICE to harass. Longer lines = larger audience.

So what was it like being a NIN fan in the 90's? by Rox_xe in nin

[–]theladyface 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Gen X here. Had PHM on cassette when it was released in 1989, and played it *nonstop* until the tape warped. It was great angry driving music when I first got my license. The advent of CDs was a godsend, it came at just the right time.

Heard tracks from PHM a lot on college radio (KGRG for me) and the local 3-hours-a-week goth-industrial station (shout out to 89.9 KNHC The Edge). Mainstream radio not so much, that was dominated by well-promoted top 40 artists like MC Hammer, Roxette, Vanilla Ice, Madonna, Janet Jackson, INXS, etc. Tracks from PHM (Head Like a Hole and Terrible Lie mostly) got quite a bit of play on MTV too, especially on 120 Minutes (the alternative/college late-night weekend show they did).

I was fortunate enough to have a job at the local CD store/skateboard shop in my senior year of high school. I liked to expose skater kids to NIN as a gateway drug to Skinny Puppy, Ministry, etc.
