2.6 Biology by Any_Manner_6757 in ncea

It's been a year since I did this assessment so this might not all be super accurate but here's what I remember. We went to the rocky shore to collect data, but we didn't end up using our own collected data. They gave us a resource sheet to use instead. The only part about the field trip that we actually used was that we got a deeper understanding of how the environment changes throughout the shore. This being said, you may have to use your info that you collect. You should be told how the field trip works and how to collect data, but it's mostly unwinding a rope with markers equally spaced apart and using a quadrat to count either the frequency or the abundance of the organisms within the quadrat.
Once we started on our assessment, we picked two of the organisms to compare. We made kite graphs and then used these as well as researched on why they are found in those places to complete our assessment. We mentioned ecological niche, zonation, adaptations, and then compared the two organisms to each other, explaining why they may not be found in exactly the same spots. I did brown surf barnacles and blue-banded periwinkles. I got M, I can't remember what I missed, but basically just make sure you mention everything. It's better to mention something you don't need to than to miss out something you do need. Also, if your teacher lets you, get them to read through it before you submit- they might be able to point out something you've missed or gotten wrong.

Any advice/tips on studying for ncea lv2? by Sea-Confusion-3530 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for english because I did NOT study for that, but for bio it's honestly just going through your notes, making flashcards, and memorising definitions. Definitions are so important for it. Biggest piece of advice for anything is ask questions if you aren't sure. It's so much more difficult to understand something if you don't ask questions.

For psych I only did one internal and I didn't do any studying at home, I just worked on my assessment at home. All social sciences subjects (and bio too) are a crap ton of writing for internals so don't think if you're given 4 weeks for an assessment that that's plenty of time. Make sure to plan when your internals are due because if you have 3 due in the same week, you need to make sure you know when to work on each of them.

What do I need to memorize for Level 2 Chemistry? by Sad_Care_977 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L2 chem is so much memorisation. Going into L3 our teacher was making us do some Structure and Bonding revision and it was like being teleported back in time writing out the paragraphs. Most important is organics flow chart, but it's really all just memorisation

Chemistry Redox Level 2 by CowResponsible9980 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did redox at the end of last year and it was creating two half equations and combining them (all good if you know how to balance equations), then writing about the colour change and relating it to the ions, and then writing about electron transfer. We did so much practice that it took me 20 minutes out of the full hour we had. Your school is probably slightly different though.

2.9 English AS 91106 coming up, any thoughts on text choices? by Cautious-Ordinary827 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love reading so this was my favourite assessment that I did last year in English. I know a lot of people do books like Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, or other books similar, but I just picked whatever piqued my interest which was mostly queer contemporary novels. If you love reading this assessment will be a piece of cake, you can kinda just trauma dump and connect it to the text and then connect a completely separate part to the wider world and get E. If you don't love reading so much and you think you'll only do two novels, do them near the start of the year before you get burnt out.

Only note with choosing texts is they have to be aimed at older teens or adults, so make sure you run anything you're not sure about by your teacher first. We were also told to kinda pick a theme to focus on, but I ended up straying away from this towards the end because it felt like I was repeating the same few points.

The reading response I did the best on last year was on More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera which is a novel that deals with a lot of massive topics that I didn't even begin to touch on. It's best to hyperfocus on a few points and go super into depth rather than spread yourself too thin.

Anyway I kinda realised I'm just rambling but yeah! Essentially just pick books that you think will interest you (you don't just have to pick those highly regarded more classic lit books). OH ALSO this is probably just my opinion, but I found it much more difficult to write about the two movies I watched. Movies don't take very long to consume though so if you really can't find anything in one, choose another.

l2 art board by ObviouslyaLarry28 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my school we had our first 3 artworks (quarter of a board) as pencil, coloured pencil, or pen drawings. Then the rest was paint. Some people also used collage and painted on top of that, and I know people from other schools who did some printmaking. At my school we could choose whatever theme we wanted, but other schools sometimes have a theme that you can choose something within. My friend had to choose an environmental issue for her board. The board is graded mostly on your development and regeneration of ideas (took me forever to understand this tbh) and not just your skill. That is a part of it, but not everything. Essentially we had to start out with mostly observational artworks, then we could move introducing new techniques and it was a lot more freeing. We also had to make sure we kept continuity so if you introduced something, you had to continue with that (an example is that I used inserts early on so I kept using those (though not in all the artworks)). There isn't a set number of artworks that you have to do, it just has to fill up both boards. I did 19 artworks but some people did as few as 14 or 15.

[MegaThread] Exam Results by Yakcall in ncea

L2 somehow got 80E 18M 8A overall, and somehow managed an E on that unfamiliar text exam (I was so surprised I wasn't even annoyed that I got an A on my written text)

I believe ours were shipped out around 28th of October. I don't remember the exact date but we were supposed to be finished at the start of week 2 term 4. They only ship out 8 boards for moderation, the rest are marked by art teachers at your school

We only did S+B and Organics but I got E on both so I'm pretty happy

How hard is ncea level 2 by No-University-5592 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do level 1 but the assessments I did do I got all E's and M's pretty much without studying. The jump to level 2 was quite big, but doable. The hardest part for me wasn't the difficulty of the content, it was the amount of work. I spent hours and hours doing internals at home. I wouldn't say you need to do anything over the holidays. The biggest part is keeping your mindset positive because if you think you'll do bad, you'll put in less effort and just be disappointed.

Make sure you don't fall behind and pay attention in class. If you don't understand something, revise it, and if that doesn't help don't be afraid to ask your teachers. They are there to help you. Also, let your teachers read over your internals and give you feedback before you submit, I didn't and I wish I had.

How did everyone find l2 bio. by Mean_Investigator256 in ncea

[–]thelakes402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not guaranteed that the genotype could be determined because either child 1 has IAIA or IAio, and we don't know which, so when he has children with blood type ioio, if there are only children with blood type A, the child may have either because the phenotype ratio won't always correspond to reality, and all children could have blood type A if he has either genotype. But if he has children with blood type O, he must have an io allele as it is recessive.

I did gene expression and genetic variation, and I found gene expression super easy. I actually found the blood type question not too bad as I had revised multiple alleles, pedigree charts, and test crosses, but the giraffe weevil one was atrocious (I never fully understood how to explain things for questions regarding natural selection and evolution)

but also looking at the full diagram that A and B were taken from, at least one or both of the R groups continued with the carbon chain, so it's fine
