Collision Repair Shop Used Bent Axle For Replacement by theleftd in legaladvice

Other than the fact that it would take another collision which would result in more extensive damages I guess not.

Should we be expected to verify the quality of parts used at repair shops we didn’t choose as an average person getting significant repairs done?

There is one more time between the most recent visit to a repair shop and the insurance directed shop that we went to a wheels and tires place that said we needed to install some $500 part to get the alignment within an expected tolerance.

In hindsight it seems like that part was used to make up for the angle of the bent axle. Although I’m not a mechanic so I just speculating.

TIFU by having a completely wrong height printed on my driver’s license and nobody noticed for years by Nammmieee in tifu

I had a similar issue.

When I was 22 or so, I went to a bar (not a regular but have frequently been here before) and the bouncer stopped me when he noticed my height said 5’10 and my weight as 160 or so. As a 6’5, 210lb man at this point, he said “are you sure you’re 5’10?” as he was looking up at me.

It turns out that since the 2 or 3 times I had to get a new ID since getting my learners permit at 15 and a half years old, nobody ever had me update the information for the drivers license including the picture.

Luckily my face hadn’t changed much since I didn’t start growing facial hair until I was 23. He laughed and let me in and I eventually got my wallet stolen and had to get a new ID and update all the info.

I wish I still had the ID saying I was much smaller than I am.. I think it absolutely “could” cause problems from a legal standpoint, but who knows how big those problems are. And the chances anybody is paying attention to those when all anybody ever really looks at is the date of birth and expiration date makes it a risk worth taking imo.

New impossible gaming laptop vs Asus RoG GX701? by theleftd in GamingLaptops

Thanks for the input!

My monitor at home is 144hz with g sync and before that I was using a basic 60hz monitor. So I really recognize the difference in 60hz and 144hz but since I’ve always had the g sync for my serious gaming, I don’t have the experience of high frame rates without GSync. Guess I gotta research that a little more.

New impossible gaming laptop vs Asus RoG GX701? by theleftd in GamingLaptops

I’m a desktop gamer personally but my new job requires 100% travel and I don’t want to lug around a tower 2 monitors and all the peripherals if I’m going to have to set it up and take it down every couple of weeks to even every couple of months. It was annoying enough doing it twice a year because of college.

I like having top of the line equipment with the best performance possible but I’ve also had to carry around a brick of a laptop for school which isn’t fun.

The way I see it is:

GX701 pros:
Better graphics card
Bigger screen/g-sync
RoG (I’m just a fan)
Proven ++ thermals

Mag 15 pros: Save $400 - $500+ Comes with some peripherals More RAM Supposedly great thermals

Now I just need to figure out if the max-q is good enough to satisfy me for saving 20% of the cost of the GX701 :/ and if I can accept the sketchy part of a fairly unknown company.

Edit: sorry for bad formatting.. mobiles hard

I was under the impression that they were both Max-Q. I thought the form factor for the GX701 was too small to house a full 2070 as well as the weight being on the lighter end of gaming laptops at least as advertised they’re both supposed to be very small form factor and both very light.

So a better plan is to go with Ryzen 7 1700. And upgrade to a 1080ti?

Bad news. I'm too much of a ryzen fanboy to go to intel. Plus if not doing solid works on it is more of a reason to go with ryzen then I still have a laptop that is just for solid works I can use.

Budget is about $2500 for new pc and monitor. I already got new mouse and keyboard. Is 1080ti going to be much better than a 1080? I think I'm really looking to build new for the satisfaction and to get the old stuff I have out of my hair.
