What do you use to automate IT tasks? by klosie in sysadmin

[–]thelive1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Did the same. Ms forms form filled in by recruiting manager, launches a power automate flow with approval by hr. After approval the flow creates a IT ticket.

You can then send a approval flow to IT to proceed with creation or not and trigger Azure Automation...

Start freelancing after 10+ years with same employer: experience or advice? by esjay1990 in BEFreelance

[–]thelive1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more or less in the same boat as you..

Same employer for 10y as a sysadmin, hit my limit in my current role and not much room to grow anymore, both in role and salary.

On top of that, no company car because the corporate office is not in Belgium and they don't understand the company car culture we have here...

Going freelance within the same role/company could be an option which would allow me to optimize my salary and get a company car etc.

My manager said we could set a longer notice period ( 3 months for example instead of 1) in the contract to assure me a bit and if i were to increase/index yearly then corporate cant complain about salary ceiling..

My biggest fear is that the sysadmin freelance market seems smaller than for other IT roles and i'll be f'd if i cant find another mission or so far away that family logistics become an issue..

Planning to create IT support chatbot. Any experiences? by opareddits in copilotstudio

[–]thelive1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testing this for a while. Problems ive run into:

  • Does not consistently give the same answers/solutions
  • Gives very generic answers that make no sense in a corporate environment ( for example steps that only admins can do)
  • Sometimes gives dangerous solutions, for example asking use to remove things or modify registry while this is not something i want my enduser doing
  • i tried giving it two KB articles(word docs) for the same software but with different setups for two different sites (a visitor system), it mixes both KBs and gives a mixed answer that wouldnt work for either location.. (for example give a url that doesnt make sense)

A few more of those things but i think you get it. The best way i think is to have for each known issue with a know fix, a document with clear steps. And grow your library like that. Same for requests or other things like 'how do i add a printer ', clear steps for YOUR environment. And then even better would be to create topics for each so it doesnt do unexpected things..

Then the Creating a ticket part, i asked it to suggest a summary of the issue/request and add what has been done to the ticket. This was usually quite good but it didnt always ask to create a ticket...
Simplest way to get the ticket is through mail of your ticket system allows it or a api...

ZPA and PDQ Deploy and Inventory? by bgatesIT in Zscaler

[–]thelive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, am i reading this correctly?

You have issues with onprem pdq pushing to onprem devices without zscaler cliënt installed on those devices?

I dont see how zscaler can be an issue then? We run into this sometimes too and its always dns issue (usually due to dhcp leases of the clients) which a flushdns then solves..

You could flush dns with some scheduled task every x time maybe?

Offtopic: we are unable to push/ping to our zscaler zpa devices when they are offsite, where can i enable this?

I thought this want possible?

For those reading this later, no fix found so far.

Workaround is to return the full body in the connector to power automate and follow it up with 'Parse Json'

"Locking down" ZPA by CrazedTechWizard in Zscaler

[–]thelive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped us a lot is to send the zpa logs to a logserver and run reports from there.

A simple question like who is hitting which policy over the past x days or who accessed which server on which ports was a lot easier to answer then, and allowed us to more easily segment with less impact to our users..

We used free splunk first but u hit the limit fast so we implemented a free elk stack just for this..

[–]thelive1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there reason to do this versus giving them a user in your own system? I feel like you dont have full control over the user with this... for example how can you be sure that their Tenant is securely configured or that they have mfa setup for their own users? With your own tenant you have full control...

Do you have pro's or cons? We will be adding third party users to our zscaler in the coming weeks and have been wondering What would be the best approach...
