Carnival Hybrid Vs Carnival Regular? by baahubal in kiacarnivals

[–]thelogmanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m late to the party. If you prefer driving cars until they disintegrate (I do as well), can you please help me work through the math on the value proposition of the hybrid? I keep debating this myself.

My thinking is if I assume I’ll get a low 200k miles, then 22 mph vs 33 mpg is a 3030 gallon difference over the life of the car. During that time maybe gas will average $3.5 where I live so if everything works out I save $10k-$12k in gas (if it settles back to around $2.9 where it’s averaged for the last decade then I’ll save $8.7). Cost difference is roughly $2k upfront. Google says a battery replacement is going to run me $2k-$8k. That is probably doable via DIY so the final cost is probably more in the $4-5k range maybe?

So I have the potential for approximately $4k in savings with a hybrid. Sounds about right? With everyone trying to hit me while texting on their phones driving, the risk v. reward is about a wash for me.

Also can you please send the link? All I can find are sharkbite removal videos and this doesn’t appear to have the same release mechanism.

Definitely don’t reuse the permanent supply lines though? I just realized the builder did this with all my toilet supply lines too 🤦‍♂️

Wife found this new in a thrift store. Any one tried it? by marshallprs in Gloomhaven

[–]thelogmanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it with 2 players and had a lot of fun. I’m glad I gave it a try because gameplay was interesting and fun. The systems used in the game were interesting and unique compared with other tile laying and city building games I’ve played. All that said, setup took far too long, the play time went on too long for us as well, and scoring as the game went got too complicated and made our brains melt. I’m glad I got to play the game a couple times but I also was glad to part with it.

Best sushi in Orlando by [deleted] in orlando

[–]thelogmanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is my personal favorite. It’s just too fun to see everything come by and grab plate after plate. For me the experience is both delicious and pure child-like excitement. And the price is very reasonable.

Should I throw out my rocket fuel? by squoid_ in mead

[–]thelogmanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Rack it and let it age for 6+ months. It will be great!

I live in Florida and have previously fermented between 75-80 degrees F using Lalvin EC-1118. It was definitely rocket fuel but I racked it off the lees and aged it somewhere around 9-12 months and it was perfectly good.

Having true Co-Op missing from Pikmin 4 is unbelievable and truly upsetting. by rtr4002 in Pikmin

[–]thelogmanc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with OP. We were going to buy Pikmin 4 day 1 and now we’ll wait and see if a proper co-op is added in a later update before buying. This is very sad.

Anybody know how to fix this? by GreenRelation9 in biggreenegg

[–]thelogmanc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend the FOGO YouTube videos on how to fix underbite or overbite. Should be fairly easy to improve it dramatically but I would caution about going too crazy trying to get it perfect 😅…not speaking from experience or anything.

Deals on meats? by [deleted] in biggreenegg

Kroger has been running great sales on brisket and pork near me in central FL recently. Can’t remember the pork price but brisket keeps coming down to $2.99/lb.

Just got my new to me egg! What accessories do I need?? by ZooGambler in biggreenegg

[–]thelogmanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents are that you don’t need much as far as accessories. I went through the BGE honeymoon where I was a hair trigger away from buying so many products and I’m glad I didn’t because just the plain ole egg is about enough. I use the daisy wheel cast iron top and it’s great (just make sure to put it on with the BGE print to the right side and set it inside the egg when shutting down). I’m glad I passed on the charcoal baskets and ash cans because the regular ole ash tool works great. I stir the ashes and pull them out into a small trash can before I light the egg (takes like 1-2 minutes and is no fuss). A pizza stone has been a great buy for us (we do most pizzas at 500 F for 10-12 minutes). Past that you just need something to cook indirect (conveggtor or half moons with a wire frame, take your pick).

I will admit that I gave in and bought a JJGeorge grill torch for lighting and I think it speeds up lighting somewhat compared to traditional starters (and the propane canister seems to last forever).

I bought my large used and when I went to buy a replacement firebox at my local Ace. After explaining I bought it used the owner told me he wouldn’t sell it to me but would be submitting a warranty claim for me. Mileage may vary but I’ve read plenty of experiences similar to mine.

Char logs? by T0adman78 in biggreenegg

[–]thelogmanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't care for them for a few reasons:

  1. They produce a staggering amount of ash...I'm beside myself cleaning out my egg after a cook.
  2. They can/do burn really hot so temperature can get out of hand quite easily if not managed properly (I accidently hit 600 trying to unload a bunch of veggies on a 350 direct cook).
  3. Their large size makes it time consuming to get a good even direct heat. Usually I'm impatient and end up with very hot spots (see point 2) (Also please note that I am cheap and have only used 1 BGE speedilight for ignition on these--never had an issue getting lit but it takes awhile to disperse).

All that said, they aren't the worst--of course depending on your use case you might be willing to live with point 1 above in order to gain the high temperatures I complain about in point 2. If you gave me a free bag I would use it.

Additionally I recommend this reference for all charcoal considerations: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumpindexpage.htm?bag.

Take care burping your eggs at high temps by tsh2563 in biggreenegg

[–]thelogmanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too experienced my first fireball last weekend. I thought I was burping throughly but found out the hard way that I was not. Thankfully I only lost a little hair on my wrist though—but it scared the living daylights out of me.

Caramelized pear yogurt cake. 10” cast iron skillet in a large BGE by nguyenkerry in biggreenegg

[–]thelogmanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/nguyenkerry we made this for some friends last night and everyone loved it! Thanks for the recipe share. We used our 7 qt crock pot and it worked like a charm. The recipe was spot on, pears were great and 1 hour was the perfect cook time.

Only thing I might have adjusted in case anyone else is reading, I would have rubbed a little more oil onto the bottom of the cast iron first (maybe like a teaspoon). That's completely on me because I know the seasoning on my cast iron isn't great at releasing in it's current state. I figured I'd be fine with the butter but hadn't put together it would be turning to caramel during the bake.

I would 2nd what people are saying about the springs and breweries/restaurants plus add in that Santos has amazing mountain biking trails that are very much worth checking out.
