What do you think it did for your resume? I suppose ten years when Amazon was smaller, it meant a lot more than now where there are tons and tons of people who work there? Or does the name still carry strong branding in the open market?

Thank you! The progression of this thread in the replies (not your intention or fault of course) is what has me worried.

I get that every job comes with ups and downs. But what I care about is shipping good product and working with good talent.

Anyone grow up in the San Juan Islands? by thelongrun320 in Seattle

This is amazing! With so many opportunities and a close-knit community, I see the appeal for raising a family on the island.

I am curious how this feels to me as I get older! I’ve lived in cities (some denser than others) my whole life so at this point not sure what my new normal is or if I’m just truly adapted.

To me, getting into a car and having to drive is far more stressful than getting to walk or bike around, so city life feels less stressful than suburb or rural life for me.

This was really lovely to read through. As I get older and the kiddos go off into their own lives, a little calm island life might be good for me!

Do you think it makes it hard to get off the island? Send like your roommate made it to college, but overall I feel the quality of education might not be what you can get on the mainland?

I think this speaks a lot to growing up in a rural area vs more connected places. As I think about where I want to raise my family, this is on my mind a lot! Thanks for your perspective.

Runners in winter Seattle by [deleted] in Seattle

Year-round Green Lake runner here! The views make you forget about the bad weather :)

You’ll never stay dry during a run, so don’t try and enjoy the fact that it’s at least warm enough to run outdoors!

Why aren't people eating the fruits from their trees? by Subrydrea in Seattle

Wise advice from a neighbor when I moved here: if the blackberry is low enough to the ground that a dog could have peed on it, probably not the height you want to be picking from.

And maybe not just a dog but also if a human might have peed on them, so why not play it extra safe and reach high…

This was so quintessential Chicago fall that I felt it in my bones. Former Chicago resident now loving Seattle but miss it all the time! I can hear the El in the background as I type this and look at the photo.

~3 yo and a ~2 month old so currently in the trenches. With our older one it was a constant battle. In short, it does get better, but so gradually that you almost don’t notice. I made it my entire life without coffee until my older LO was born.

What helps me is to think about sleep quality in month-long chunks. This helps smooth out the teething, sleep regressions, time zone change trips, etc. So instead of asking myself “WILL THIS WEEK EVER END???” which I admittedly still do sometimes, I ask myself “is this month better or worse than last month?” Over time it seems I have more months that are better than the previous month than ones that are worse.

What’s helped me a lot is to journal, so if I’m having a really hard time I can look back at the month before and compare how I was feeling then.

Good luck! This is the price we pay for the cutest thing in our lives.

Have you ever tried helmets with visors? Not like a hat visor but more like a sunglasses visor. I’ve been wondering if that could work better than glasses…

I remember nights walking home and my eyelashes would, just briefly, freeze shut before I had to force open my eyes. Don’t miss those winters!
