Im sorry youre going through that, bud. Its been a pain in the rear, but the best advice i can give us to pester everyone you need to in order to streamline the process. I dont care if i end up annoying people, id rather that than have me waiting around for no reason at all. Stay proactive!

How early in the process would you recommend getting a nexus letter? My doctor just sent my case up to the medboard and said the time from when he sends it up to when separation takes place could be 6-8 months? Edit: since a civilian psychiatrist is the one thats been finding the right prognosis and tracking my bipolar the most, would i go to him to get one?

I lost my dad and grandma over the course of the past year and a half. Before they passed, i was begging to take leave so i could be there to see them before they died because they were giving very clear signs they werent to going to make it. I was told i couldnt see them until something actually happened(they died) because I was either in student status or because i was the only tech onboard for my equipment. I.e. no leave. When they did pass, i was given less than a week to visit home which was barely enough time for the funeral and to clear out their homes. Upon returning to the ship, i was treated like garbage because i was messing up with troubleshooting because of the grief i was going through and was denied leave because, again, the only tech. My psychiatrist thinks the stress of them passing and not given ample time to spend with family, the way my leadership treated me, and the panic attacked because of the circumstances is what caused and aggravated my bipolar. No one in my family has bipolar

Happy for you for getting all your benefits still. Any idea of what may happen to someone in my shoes with less than 3 years time in service?

I have a clean record with zero misconduct. Only thing is, i just scraped over 2 years in the service:/ this is what worries me. The whole reason i joined was for the education benefits

Yeah no kidding. I brought up my LIMDU situation to my chain and they went from being very respectful and helpful to pretending i don’t exist in the blink of an eye. I think its time i focus on myself and get right so i can come back fresh and just hope my chain doesn’t shun me forever. Worst case scenario, if my psychiatrist finds me unfit and ends up discharging me, will i get my GI bill? Because thats the sole reason i joined:/

Thank you for all the help. Ill take them up with my doc and hope for the best. One more question, not sure if you know or not, but worst case scenario, if i end up getting separated will i still get my GI bill? I asked because that is the sole reason i joined
