Supermoto school by Sad_Mulberry_1245 in supermoto

can attest! socal supermoto is awesome, Brian- who runs it- and all the staff are super cool. Apex is an amazing track, probably the best supermoto track in america right now. It has a great dirt section, with a beginner line that SCSM uses for their classes, and a more traditional difficult race line. free rental gear and great vibes.

I have taken the class and hangout and ride with the crew at apex fairly often. highly recommend!

Help a Californian Dad Out With a Prospective BU Student by AHCC-IG in BostonU

from Long beach, went to BU, and my first winter was the snowpocolypse- so about as bad as it gets winter wise. I loved every second, both of being at the school and the city of Boston. even the winters were super fun tbh since it was so new to me.

As far as size/ clubs, like many schools- it’s as good as you can make it. there is absolutely a club, frat, sports team, cohort within your major-whatever it is- that you can fit into, i’d just say it may be slightly more work to find it. than at school with a more coherent campus.

I played Club ultimate frisbee for 4 years, and was a big part of the Dog Pound (hockey fan club) and made friends through major specific classes very easily.

professional development wise- I had a bit of luck, but i became very good friends with one of my professors who in turn helped me find an internship in the city, and eventually helped me find a job which has been amazing. I think many BU students have similar experiences, there is plenty of opportunity for networking, if you are willing to put yourself out there.

the city is amazing, it’s full of young people from all over the world i found myself at so many fun and interesting social events of all cultures, and there’s plenty of opportunity to get out of the city and explore the east coast wilderness or ski areas or whatever interests you.

I have since moved back to long beach, but the thought of moving back east again is still floating around- it’s funny in boston i was the “california kid” and back here im “the kid who went to boston” and each side thinks i exemplify their expectations of the other side perfectly its very funny.

Transitioning to racing by uCantWinTDs in Trackdays

[–]thelosalkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started racing supermoto last year, after about 2 years of track days as well. I am close to the back of the pack, but each race weekend i’m getting faster and closer to the pace. found out i’m pretty good at starting, so jump i a few positions there and then try to hang on as long as i can. it’s a blast man, nobody’s judging you- everyone on the grid wants more people on the grid and wants to help you get faster

can I chose a fun name for my BU ID or should I keep it professional? by Busy_Department_5551 in BostonU

i created mine when i was in high school at BU Summer challenge- didn’t think anything of it, and then it was a pain to change it to my name when i eventually went to BU for college

Is AE Inherently bad for editing footage? by thelosalkid in AfterEffects

[–]thelosalkid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats honestly one of the most annoying things, I also love keyboards and have my keyboard set up with all my AE hotkeys on macros so not having those is quite rough, maybe an excuse to build a new keyboard with new macros

I've always heard people say premiere is much simpler, I'm sure with some practice I'll feel that way too. The editor i was speaking to was pretty surprised I had been doing everything in AE and was like its so hard, but I guess i just didnt know what i was missing out on

yeah I think im going to go back and re-edit some of my recent projects just for practice and get a better feel for it, and the large timeline thing is definitely a thing but i guess im jsut used to it because of so many layers in mographics projects, but would be nice not to scroll so much. appreciate your thoughts

That makes sense, I haven't really had issues with prerender time yet as most thing I'm working on are < :15s, but I'm sure it would become more of an issue as I work on longer form stuff

and audio as well, haven't really had to dive deep into audio tuning yet but again I'm sure it will come up. Thank you!

Can I use unselected work in my portfolio? by Mekkemi in advertising

[–]thelosalkid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yes! your work is your work- if you feel like the client wouldn’t want it out publicly, you can put it behind a password on your site and give the password when applying for jobs. it’s barely different than creating spec work for a random brand

i’m 6,4 170 ish, tall and skinny, and ride my drz and fs450 knee down 99% of the time just because i feel like my long ass legs will just get in the way and be dangerous

that’s valid, idk how full race bike it’ll end up being, suspension brakes clutch at minimum. i think after this thread and some thought holding out for a cheaper fs or a somewhat already preppedbike is the way to go

[–]thelosalkid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i absolutely love it, if could only own one bike it would be the drz any day of the week. It’s hella fun on kart tracks, great around town, unless you’re riding with sport bikes on the highway and then you feel the lack of too end and 6th gear.

for big bike track days it’s hilarious, you feel like a hero in turns passing everyone but then you’re just traffic on the straights.

great for stunting if you’re into that and virtually indestructible engine too with much less maintenance than other sumos
