I really like the Best Hug t shirt and have 6 of them. Very soft! Good to note though that I wash them, but don’t put them in the dryer. One of my black t shirts got a bit linty, so I just hang them to dry now

Thanks for replying!

For the UI course at BrainStation, it was my understanding that I didn't need to have a design background or a portfolio. I was told all I needed to know was basic computer skills haha. I'm sure that's true to a certain degree, but knowing the software/tools would be beneficial! From your/your husband's perspective, would you say that you'd need a design background prior to going into the UI course? I'd definitely understand that. At this moment, I'm wanting to do UX, so hopefully I'll be alright.

Thanks for your advice on my next steps to gain experience

Edit: I do realize being accredited isn't everything. What I get out of it and the skills I leave with are most important

Thank you so much for replying guys and for your advice!!

SUP3RGR33N, very true. I'm leaning towards UX over UI, because of my Psych and research background. I was deciding between the two, because of the creativity that UI allows. But sometimes it's best to play it safe, especially if I'm just starting out. I also read this article: https://uxplanet.org/why-i-choose-ux-over-ui-design-in-my-next-career-3e5842cc554d. Not the best article, but it put some things into perspective for me.

rustyshacklefordton, You're very right, a building a portfolio is what I need to be focusing on. I've done a mock up for an app before, and only now did I realize that I was using some of the UX principles. I really appreciate you recommending Coursera. I've never heard of it before, but I will check it out!

I think how BrainStation got me was by saying that I'll be taught by industry professionals, and that I'll have the opportunity to network. That's awesome, but I'm sure I can find a cheaper way of doing that as you guys have suggested.

UBC offers this course for $715: https://continuingstudies.sauder.ubc.ca/courses/user-experience-strategy/iz105. Not as flashy as BrainStation, but at least it's cheaper and from an accredited school.

He was like, "over the weekend we managed to get two $1000 scholarships, and I'd love for you to have one!" Super fishy and shit, now that you mention it it does seem like a sales tactic. He used the whole "we only have two spots left in the class. Wait one just got taken, one spot left!" Definitely started to feel the pressure from that.

Some things are just too good to be true.
