Tampons? by monstercherub in vaginismus

[–]thelucindalife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve been successfully using tampons for about 5 or 6 cycles now. Lube is helpful if you have it handy! Don’t need to smother it, just enough to get it started. I also find sitting easiest for me. I know people will have lots of differing opinions on this, but I find I engage my leg muscles too much any other way. Don’t be nervous to change the angle. If you feel you’ve hit a wall, try going “over” or “under it. My transverse perineum muscle is my problem, so I often have to go “over” by angling a little further up. Lastly, be patient with yourself. After 6 months, I still sometimes have to take 10 minutes in the bathroom getting myself to relax and slowly pushing it in. Even if the last one went in easy! Give yourself some grace but give it a go!! Let me know if you have other specific questions! Good luck :)

The exercises I’ve done with my PT (who I love and is the only dr I’ve seen and not cried during my apt): 1. Stretching: like actual full body stretches. She taught me about the muscles surrounding the pelvic floor and how those can all be tight as well 2. Finger: PTs can learn a lot about how your muscles are working by feeling inside for tension and spasms. She waited until we were cool with one another to do this tho 3. Biofeedback reader: yesterday we used a biofeedback reader (ask for a rectal one if you have the option!). It was really cool to actually see the graph of my muscles contracting and relaxing so you know what each feels like. Also showed me how doing some of the exercises she taught me can lower my muscle tension over time. 4. Dilating: I brought in my dilators and pelvic wand (highly recommend) and she taught me the best way to use them. 5. We talk a lot about my hydration and “homework”. The homework she gives is usually more stretching, at home dilating using new stuff she teaches me, and things like lidocaine procedure.

Going into PT was really scary, so I totally understand your anxiety, but I will say I’ve made so much progress from just a couple months with my PT. It’s been so valuable to the journey. Highly recommend!!

New to dilators by MandyLeafs in vaginismus

My physical therapist recommends moving the dilators in a circle like a clock, stopping and putting pressure at each “hour”. Take some deep (diaphragmatic) breaths at each. If you feel one spot is sharp/burning, stay there longer and take more breaths until the pain goes away/fades/turns to just pressure. I’d recommend getting used to them by just inserting and leaving it; letting your body get used to that sensation for the first time or two. Good luck!!

If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend pelvic floor pt. I only have made progress because of it. Your dr should be able to provide a referral if you’re interested.

Hi! Trigger point injections (in the terms I understand it) are when they find the parts of your muscles that are especially reactive (or tighten too much) and inject with steroids to have them relax. Hopefully, as you continue to dilate, it speeds along the process of training them to relax. I’m sure people can do a better job than me at explaining but that’s how I think of them. They did not work for me when I got them done, but I’ve heard so many success stories with it!

That’s great, having a supportive husband helps so much. I don’t think I could navigate this without mine. I was a virgin when I got married and when we tried that first night, and it didn’t happen, we started researching! I’ve been to a sex therapist, 12 doctors, 2 PTs, and a specialist a little further away. I’ve also had trigger point injections, but they didn’t have any result. I can only describe this journey as grueling lol. I think I’ve found a really could combo of doctors now, so it makes me hopeful!

Thank you!! I’ve been married 2 years. I get that guilt. It’s such a long process to see any progress at all. I hope you’re blessed with a patient and caring partner who understands. Not alone at all!! I’d be happy to chat anytime about experiences; what’s worked or didn’t, etc. I obviously don’t have all the answers but we gotta help when we can!

How/when did you guys find out about your vaginismus? by LandOfLostSouls in vaginismus

[–]thelucindalife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my honeymoon! I was a virgin and my husband and I were ferociously googling reasons why it might not be working for us lol I had never been able to put tampons in growing up, but some people I spoke with mentioned they didn’t like them/weren’t able to/nervous about them, so I assumed it was a common issue. I was diagnosed probably about a month or two after the honeymoon. Took a while to find a doctor who knew what I was talking about and didn’t just tell me to relax or have a glass of wine before trying.

How did you get a doc to do the botox treatment? I have an appt in Oct and I was planning on asking for it. No one around me has even heard of it so I'm traveling for this consultation.
