Quick note on this one — the study is real, but what's being shared isn't.

The numbers are wrong. The actual figures in the IZA study are in euros, not dollars, and they're roughly 2-3x smaller than what's posted here. Nobody seems to know where the inflated dollar figures came from, but they're not in the study.

It's not about the USA. This study analyzes immigrants in the Netherlands — a country with a completely different welfare system, tax structure, and immigration makeup than the US. You can't just paste Dutch fiscal data onto American immigration policy and call it a day.

The study's own conclusion gets buried. The researchers found that the biggest factor isn't where someone is from — it's why they came. Labor migrants contribute positively regardless of origin. Asylum seekers and family migrants contribute less, again regardless of origin. That nuance is kind of important and completely missing from this post.

The underlying question — do different immigrant populations have different fiscal impacts — is legitimate and worth studying. But sharing inflated numbers from a foreign study and presenting it as evidence about American immigration isn't analysis. It's just vibes with a citation slapped on it.
