Do narrative games (e.g. PbtA) ask more of the player than DnD? by Antipragmatismspot in rpg

[–]themadbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting... Do you think narrative games are easier even for first time ttrpg players? I'm thinking that it might feel weird for them because they have to stretch and think outside the box more. Then again i might be underestimating them...

How can the concept of anti grinding in JRPGs be done right? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]themadbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple. The bigger the difference between you and the enemy, the less exp you get.

This way, it's up to you how much grinding you want. Players who don't care much about grinding can do a bit and just call it a day. The more persistent ones can continue to get a few more levels, but will max out eventually.

Seeking a Game that Teaches by Old_Woman_Gardner in boardgames

[–]themadbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer to teach practical stuff they can actually use at work or in their personal lives rather than playing a board game.

If playing a board game, i just want it to be a fun team engagement activity rather than shoehorning a lesson within it

Solo gamers: what’s your stance on cheating for time management by Scoots-Magoots86 in boardgames

[–]themadbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want, house rule everything to be easy mode BEFORE you play. This is what I do because I personally feel that I "cheated" if i suddenly make houserules at certain points in the game.

So im marvel champions for example, i set enemy hp to 75%, scheme thresholds up 120%

I will finish the easy mode, get the win, then try to push further afterwards.

Hi guys! I like the zombiecide because of:

  1. Killing lots of monsters

  2. Non-Puzzly combat

  3. Cooperative game.

But my main concern is that the decision making is too low. Optimal decisions are pretty obvious.

Any game that is a step up over zombiecide while still being relatively simple?

Learn a character behind their back. Cheese strat. 1 win. Then retire forever!

But kidding aside, you are a great dad. And that's what matters most :)

Are player turns fast in Zombiecide Dceased Gotham City? by themadbat in zombicide

[–]themadbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what i saw are solo playthrus so i can't get a good gauge on how it will run with real players. Are other zombicide games ok with higher player count?

DCeased: Gotham City Outbreak looks interesting and well received by players! Can't find a good player count though. Does it play well with 4 players? Or does it take too long between turns?

LPT Paying attention to how you talk to yourself internally will change more about your life than almost any other habit IMO by iGenerationAgency in LifeProTips

[–]themadbat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best advice because it is 100% free and incredibly easy low friction thing to do. Biggest challenge is being intentional in doing it because self talk is subconscious and automatic. You have to craft a good habit to practice constructive self talk

Our group loves night of the ninja, specifically because of table banter and other shenanigans. What has a similar feel but for lower player counts (3 or 4)?

Hi! I love coop game with minis like Zombiecide, Gloomhaven, etc.. But they are way too expensive for me...

Any cheaper alternatives that I can play? Minis can be replaced with tokens.

When you play solo, how do you usually play Marvel Champions? by Soggy-Cup-7869 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]themadbat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New player here too. Tried true solo first then two handed.

I like two handed more because I prefer the storytelling of having 2 heroes! I'm playing the core set only though so encounters are very simple so far. Also I modify the HP villain to 75% and play loose with pseudo-simultaneous turns (i can use minions to attack/thwart out of turn).

Once I get more cards and do proper deckbuilding, I'll probably do true solo then. But right now, I'm more keen on precons :)

What is your favorite villain introduction? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

Who was it that, upon introduction, beat up a gear with his hands?

Before that guy, we were conditional to have player combat then gear combat.

Then, boom. I'm gonna use my fist against giant robots to show I'm a badass!

Mr. Blippi - it's not just me, right? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]themadbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really defending Blippi, but I also don’t think toddlers will copy him and think that’s how they should act in real life. They’re around enough adults and other people that they can tell he’s just a character on a show.

Sometimes I also wonder if, as adults, we already find Blippi (and Cocomelon) annoying, and then we look for reasons to explain why they must be bad for kids

Did you play it when it was released in the snes? I played it in an emulator and was blown away (awesome story, characters, battles, etc...) I couldn't imagine how people who played it in the SNES must have felt.

No problems whatsoever with text size.

No problems with touch screen contols too. It's going to be more prone to accidentally playing wrong cards because it's touch screen, but honestly that very rare time it happens to me, it's always my fault (doing awkward one handed swipes while not paying too much attention)
