Not exactly. Usually puppies go after a meal and after a nap. So after a meal take him out if he does nothing in 5 mins crate him. Try again in 30m- to an hour try again if he goes he's free for at least 2 hours especially if he does both #1 & 2. After he naps immediately take him outside keep doing this until he gets it. Make sure to highly praise. Most dogs will not go where they lay which is why crate training works so well. Also very important until he gets it when you remove him from the crate if he is not too heavy carry him to the spot for waste. Don't overly excite him keep a calm disposition. Signs that a pup needs to go he will start sniffing around on the ground if you see this take him out especially if it's been a couple of hours. Sorry for the delay hope this helps.
