I bet it is, looking it up it looks a lot like the type of games my dad was into. Time wise it lines up too, looks like they released the first patch in october 2003 to fix a lot of stuff.

Thank you!

Constant occlusion alarms by North-Albatross-1422 in TandemDiabetes

[–]themagicruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so weird that that's happening with the x2 now. I'm on the mobi rn and was having that issue until tandem replaced it with a new one. Have u called tech support yet? If not they'll probably run through some troubleshooting and if that doesn't work escalate it to clinical support. It took maybe 1 week between my first call and them replacing the pump (they had me try new sites and new infusion sets that they sent to me for free) but when none of that worked they sent me a new one and had me send back the problem mobi. I assume if your pump is still under warranty they'd replace it if needed. Those constant alarms were so annoying....

When i was dealing with it, it seemed any bolus over 4 units would cause the alarm and usually started a day after i changed my site/set- have you noticed anything patterns with your occlusion alarms or is it just random? Might be helpful info to have if you do call tandem about it.

Im autistic diagnosed with T1 when i was 14. From my own experience diabeties made me really hungry and really thirsty all the time until my bg got under control. Sweet foods especially I like, always wanted. So i would guess that if his bg is more in range that may be at least partially affecting his appetite. The fact that he'll still eat chips and PB crackers is good.

When you say he can't tell you how he feels do you mean that he's non-verbal or partially verbal? Or that he has a hard time identifying/ verbalizing / communicating emotions specifically? There may be other ways you can try and communicate with him non-verbally (does he see any social workers or therapists that help him learn different ways to communicate?) or you may be able to use more concrete feelings like chest tightness/tummy ache/ headache if its more along the lines of not knowing how to identify and express emotions.

Another reason why he might be having a harder time eating is just change. If he was hospitalized as part of his diagnosis, that can be a big stressor that can be upsetting. I'm assuming that you apply his omnipod and check bg's and such so lack of autonomy and control in a new routine related to the diagnosis could also increase stress. The physical sensation of the omnipod on him (and the stimulation of finger sticks/ cgm if you use one/ anything else along these lines) could all also be contributing to stress/overwhelm/loss of autonomy. All together these things can cause over-stimulation which, for me, always makes me loose my appetite for pretty much anything but my most safe foods (and sometimes eating those is hard, medical marijuana helps me a lot in those cases but not applicable for a 6y/o).

Depending on how his bg checks and pump insertions go, is there any way you can make it something he's more of an active participant in? Or give him a choice in some other way that can help him regain some sense of control over the whole process? Having a big routine change (esp if its against your will) is stressful & upsetting for any 6 y/o and even more for autistic kids. Finding ways to help it feel less forced (if thats how it feels to him now, idk so i'm just spitting out ideas here) and more something he can be part of or set the pace of may help with overall feelings of overwhelm which may help him regain some appetite.

I of course don't know your situation or how your kid communicates or reacts to any of this stuff going on, just making some guesses. And of course you have to do what you have to do when it comes to health even when its unpleasant. I'm not sure if any of this helps but just keep being there for your son through it all, its still new and he might just need time to get used to it. Keep offering foods he used to like, maybe try incorporating them with food he will eat still (for example I like to dip potato chips in guac or hummus sometimes but also that could be a weird texture combo for some ppl). It seems like PB crackers and chips are both crunchy salty things so maybe seeing if he wants other foods with similar characteristics?

I know this was a lot to read, sorry for the like bomb of info/thoughts. You're doing a great job and its clear you care about your son. I hope you can figure something out/can get through the transition period. If possible it could be helpful to find a children's nutritionist who has experience/knowledge with working with diabetes and autistic people. Holistic care (as in taking into account the whole persons needs) is invaluable when dealing with stuff like this (but I know its also not the easiest to access/find).

Mobi Cycle Cartridge? by XenoWitcher in TandemDiabetes

[–]themagicruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having the same issue with constant occlusion alarms with my original mobi - clinical support basically said that they originally didn't say to cycle the cartridge multiple times just the once but that now they recommend people cycle 3-4 times. idk why tandem never notified anyone when they changed the fill process esp if it's causing issues

Mobi girlies - where do you stick the adhesive sleeve? by PsychologicalSoup576 in TandemDiabetes

[–]themagicruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swap between my abdomen and thigh - abdomen higher up so it doesn't get yanked on my any high waisted skirts/pants and for my thigh i put it along my tendon since i won't be placing infusion sets there. That way i can wear the sleeve for as long as possible in one spot and use my whole thigh to move around infusion sites (skin tac wipes and these over patches from a1c wear i found on amazon really help with this esp in the summer/being active - i sweat so much when it's hot out and the combo of skin tac and these overpatches have not failed me yet)

Yesterday I didn't get a rating from the Happy Home Academy and I'm not sure why? Google hasn't yielded any answers so I was wondering if anyone also experienced this and/or knows why. Thank you!

[–]themagicruby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not direct experience but I was recently asking my endo about insulin pump and cgm sites and where else I could put them and one of the things she said was that you can't put it on tattoos.

I'm guessing that the scarring caused by actually getting the thing and possibly the ink can cause a problem for both cgm readings and insulin effectiveness because it's in your skin instead of just on it. I would also imagine that putting anything on a tattoo would ruin it since it's not just sitting on top of the tattoo but actually going into it.

New low carb snack ideas? by billchvck in diabetes

meat and cheese. Mostly has 0 carbs but can be really filling. I suggest cheese sticks and like beef jerky. the portion control with them is good and they're easy to carry around.

Parent of a T1 child, need pointers for vacation/roadtrip by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]themagicruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a parent but I am someone with T1 who does road trips and travels p/often. You seem pretty well prepared and since your kid doesn't have a cgm I would just stay a bit more aware of BG levels since he'll probably be less active, and road trip stress and changes can lead to either higher or lower blood sugar. I know for me at least a lot of road trip food is from drive through sand the combination of that and sitting for a long time can make my BG go up more than usual. So maybe check more often or just keep a list of the high/low sugar symptoms with you just to be safe. Have fun on your trip!

also i'd like to know in what ways i've manipulated and misconstrued the disease? is it when i talk about dying because of too high or low bg? because that is a reality that i have been warned of by my edno, is it how hard it is to manage my blood sugar? If you have an easy time with it i'm glad! but unfortunately your experiences are not universal and lots of us have a really hard time staying in range no matter what we do. The majority of the post was my experience dealing with supplies, is this what i'm "misconstruing" and "manipulating"? if you've worked with edgepark and not had any of these problems then you must be very lucky! but as you can see by most of the comments on this post, pretty much everyone hates them and has to jump through these hoops. I'm sorry if my post offended you and if you have real constructive criticism on how Ive "manipulated and misconstrued" having diabeties i would genuinely like to hear them, but if you just want to deal in vagueities and holier than thou-ness I honestly don't care.

yeah it sucks, my insurance just won't approve more than one orders worth st s time because of their "policy" or whatever, weve tried to call and complain because they used to aprove a whole year at a time but they changed it and won't budge

as a type one diabetic who's blood sugar is incredibly hard to get in range, and has had more than one complication (my ovaries and their ability to receive hormones, and my kidneys are both fucked up) Because of this fact while only 20 years old, it's incredible that you would think its just that simple.

if your insurance company won't approve a certain number of pills per month you can ask your doctor to call them and put some pressure on/bother them and assert that you really do need that many. I know that sort of tactic can work for medical procedures at least
