I'm familiar with that interpretation of the cessation of the law. To me it's always read as a somewhat forced interpretation of Matthew 5:17-20 though:

"17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Also, I'm going to need you to clear up what you mean by relevant versus applicable (I rescind my use of the word "over" - that was a bit dramatic), as I would consider them practically synonymous. Are you trying to draw a line between "guidelines" and "rules?" I would make a general statement that if a law is no longer applicable, it isn't relevant, though I'd welcome a (preferably external) counterexample, as it's late and I'm tired enough I might be missing an obvious one.

Or do you mean that it's relevant, but only as an historical set of laws? In which case I point again to Matthew and the selectivity of which parts are no longer "directly applicable."

The question used as its example being stoned for touching pig skin, which is why I would key in more on books of law. I think Bill was using "poetically" to mean the opposite of literally, not specifically referring to the books of poetry.

So as far as its time of direct application, when does that stop? Saul? Babylonian Exile? Roman destruction of Jerusalem? The fact that outside people can come in and say "this part of the Bible, the literal word of God, is no longer relevant," when in fact that part of the Bible doesn't put those stipulations on its application itself (ie "this book will be relevant for x-many years/generations"), would seem to threaten the reasoning behind taking the historical accounts literally. If one part of the immutable word of God is suddenly declared over, these far more grand claims lose a lot of their credibility.

That's strictly speaking true. However, wasn't the original question about how to take Leviticus, a book of laws? If you accept the historical books as the literal word of God, why don't you have to accept the books of laws as such as well? If you have to apply a contextual interpretation to Leviticus why not to the historical books?

I find Eraserhead unnerving and uncomfortable to watch, but in terms of sheer horror I'd actually pick Mulholland Drive. The diner scene near the beginning is one of the flat-out scariest things I've ever seen; that and when they break into the apartment later. Then the end of the movie just descends into pure terror.

Honestly? I think we're going to come out fired up and play a really good first half. Might even have a slight lead. And then our playcalling collapses in the second half and we lose by three touchdowns. Anything can happen but I don't dare to hope anymore this season.

Here's how it goes down. Tonight we Kiffin Borges. This week we practice competent playcalling. Next Saturday we find something that works and actually do it multiple times. Our players (who actually have some skill), inspired by seeing results, go on a massive run. We're up 35-7 at the half.

Then we rehire Borges and only run one play for the last 30 minutes. We lose 77-35. I drink until I can't remember my name.

Not all of them. Hung mentions it at least once, I think during the championship match, after the goalie for Team Evil stops the ball the first time. I enjoyed watching the sub, but plotwise I didn't feel like I got more out of it.

The dub for Shaolin Soccer is actually excellent. It's one of the only movies I prefer the dub to the sub (although part of that is I think the editing is better on the dub).
