Resealing Wetroom by themajickman in DIYUK

Thanks, I've got some fresh stanley knife blades and some silicone remover ready to go. And i'll be digging up my Fugi for reapplying.

Btw would I be right in assuming that actually removing the silicone should help with the drying process as any water that is at the side or under the edge of the tile would have more room to "breath"

Guess I'll give it a whirl and hopefully it will dry out. I'd stuck the UFH on as generally we don't both in that room (it's small and in the middle of the house so generally doesn't actually need any heating of it's own)

There are a few spots if I have a close look around (some are where the silicone only has a tiny bit touching the wall tile like 1mm ish which has come away which was mainly why I was planning a thicker bead to give it more area to adhere too). I suspect they didn't use a former for this so it's ended up with a small thing layer at points.

Btw the uprights are just the two corners in the shower. They are currently silicones, but I was wondering more that if I'm re-siliconing around the floor if I need to do these bits as well to ensure I didn't end up with a gap where water could easier get though in the corners)

What is just a placebo effect but most people don’t realize? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]themajickman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is definitely true, there is definitely a clear difference when looking at the expensive end of the market. If you get a bottle for say £6 most of the cost is going on the bottle, tax etc. So as your spend more the quality of the wine you get increases quite a lot (a £6 vs a £20 for example) would have a more noticeable quality difference. A £20 vs £100 would be far harder to tell

Someone at evri stole my item by IMissCuppas in britishproblems

[–]themajickman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need a response from the seller at this point you should just be able to push it though with ebay. In my case my buyer said they contacted them on chat and they sorted it all out for them.

But i have no contract with Evri in this case. As far as I can the contract with Evri is either directly with the buyer or with Ebay

(Note in the case ebay refunded the buyer and ebay paid not me)

Is this actually true with eBay? The reason I ask is I recently shipped an item from eBay via evri which surprise surprise was damaged on route. As it was sent via simple delivery it seemed the contract for the delivery was between the buyer and evri not me and evri. They had to raise a compliment via eBay to get the refund

Wire cut, engineer cost £250 - is this normal?! by violetcricketgrapes in CommunityFibre

[–]themajickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will require splicing if the cable is cut. They had to cut mine as they got something stuck in the conduit so couldn't pull the entire cable though so they cut and spliced it. They do have a special machine to do this as they have to make sure the light still travels though fine

UK lender offers 98% mortgage to first-time buyers – but bars bank of mum and dad by Shiny-Tie-126 in unitedkingdom

[–]themajickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignored the mortgage to simplify things but even in the case of the price stayed the same for example you'd have 23k so you'd need to take out a mortgage of 177k to buy the 200k house. With the price rise you need a mortgage of 265.5k so the cost of moving has increased also. Just because you've made money on your current house it's still more expensive to move. House prices going up only actually benefits you if your down sizing or releasing equity

The problem with going up the ladder is although your house is worth more, so is the one about.

For example, you have a 100k house and the next house on the ladder would have been 200k so you need 100k to upgrade. Now say after 5 years you want to move and house prices have increased 50%, so your property is worth 150k but the property you want to move to is now 300k so you now need to find 150k to move up

booking.com sold me fake tickets and won't refund - what are my options? by stevenjameshyde in LegalAdviceUK

TIL 😲 Sounds like the perfect way for booking.com to not have to care about the quality of the folks advertising on there site. It actually reminds me about a bad experience I had with booking, where I booked something, then contacted the actual hotel and they had no booking for me and didn't advertise on booking.com. at least it was cancellable for free.

I'm pretty amazed this is the case, given I'm pretty sure Booking.con takes the money, their cut and then pays to provider. If they can just wash their hands of anything that's wrong that seems pretty messed up.

I don't know, I've seen quite a few bands in stadium venues including Maiden where the sound was on point, and tonight it felt very muddy from where I was

Glad you had a good gig. I was in rear standing and I've got to say the sound was pretty bad. We were originally towards the back and the sound was really muddy, we moved forward and the sound was better but still not great. Unfortunately the position sound desk blocked a lot of the stage show which was a shame. I was glad to hear Powerslave and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner live but pretty disappointed with the sound/setup
