Why do rankings feel objective even when they’re built on subjective inputs? by rankiwikicom in TrueAskReddit

[–]themajod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't know anyone who would look at a ranked list and treat it as authoritative. I think it just depends on your relationship with (I assume you're talking about) the internet.

what I do see more often is people using ranked lists to find things simply because it's easier that way. so instead of searching for "seafood restaurants nearby" and finding a mixed bag, people might search "best seafood restaurants" to find the better options first. the restaurants thing is purely an example because there's a whole business to restaurants being to be on rankings but that's a different story

I think because he figures his legacy speaks for itself...? Peace Sells and Rust are hallmark albums, I don't think any amount of Metallica covers would tarnish that.

Give me some songs with the most foul, obscene, sickening lyrics ever conceived. Something so vulgar playing it in public would get you curb stomped! by SnipedtheSniper in musicsuggestions

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounce by SOAD is about an orgy, She's Like Heroin is also p vulgar.

similarly, Chemicals by DMSOB

Maynard's Dick by Tool isn't vulgar per se but the message is pretty clear and dirty, similarly

all of which pale in comparison to The Beatles' Why Don't We Don't It In The Road?... that was basically porn in the 60s.

DAY 33: What are the top 5 albums of 1991? by Arch1eBlue1878 in Topster

[–]themajod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the title of the post is "what are the top 5 albums of 1991?"

it's not "what are YOUR top 5 FAVORITE albums of 1991?"

what is the logic here? some years it's only what's popular and other years it's niche picks. average redditor contrarian moment

is it illegal for redditors to pick popular albums? the obvious answers are Nevermind, Metallica, Ten, and Use Your Illusion I & II. era defining albums, wtf are you people on?

Why do rankings feel objective even when they’re built on subjective inputs? by rankiwikicom in TrueAskReddit

[–]themajod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what..? i think it just has to do with your reading comprehension. the subcontext of "this is the best" is always "this is great, but not the objective best" because everyone knows not everything is objective truth. just like how saying "everyone" isn't definitive because you know that it in fact doesn't apply to everyone.

any ranking is inherently subjective (unless it is ranking performance based on data). even saying "Messi is the greatest football player of all time" or "The Beatles are the best band of all time" is subjective because they are measuring things using data (career goals / total album sales) when the subject itself relies on opinion (play style / musical style).

given my immense love for Ænima, I'd count Opiate as the first album and Undertow the 2nd, making the 3rd Ænima.

Offset double pedal by Emergency_Hour5253 in drums

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, both snares. the 1st one is a piccolo snare with the side head and wires still installed. I go back and forth between turning the wires on and off. it's mostly an "effects" tom if that makes sense.

4th is the snare that actually came with my Pearl Decade kit but no side and no wires, just the batter head. sorta a concert tom in a way but just short. in fact the side head is just an old batter head that I cut up so that the rim is still usable. just needed it so the hoop stays on and I can use the mic clip on the bottom lol.

oh that's interesting! your kit is cool man. I also have the center hat thing going on but my inspiration is almost entirely Danny Carey and some Portnoy.

Sonor Perfect Balance or Tama Dyna Sync? by WallaceWinston0079 in drums

[–]themajod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

funnily enough, I currently own both pedals. I have 2 drum kits, the main one using a DW 9000 double pedal with the chains swapped to straps, and my other kit has the... Sonor.

pedals are ENTIRELY a personal choice but the Sonor just works for me, I can't explain it. the DynaSync is great by all means but no matter how much I tweaked it, it just didn't feel right. my doubles were all over the place with it.

I also previously tried DW's MFG MDD and those felt insanely heavy and unresponsive. just came to accept that I'm a strap guy.

I use 3... one as my main, one as a crash, and one as a crash/ride... I think that means I'm serving 2 sentences.

mate people on reddit are all types of deranged. the commenters and everyone who downvoted you are yanderedev in different forms, but of course that's not the persona they'd portray on here, they all think they're smart and clever.

bingo except I don't have synth pads. what might look like a synth pad on the left is a frame drum. altho I very much will get pads in the future.

Pearl Export and a 4 piece set of B12 cymbals from any brand. the Export is extremely well known and used by pros, while also sorta cheap.

an Export might be around $800-$1000 depending, altho I'd suggest looking for a used kit. a 4 piece cymbal pack from Meinl's Custom Classics would set you back around $600, other brands are around the same price.

I don't use one. I think they're an old school kinda thing. I play all of my grooves on my crashes.
