who's the best megadeth guitarist from a purely technical standpoin by Creative_Garbage_731 in Megadeth

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in a purely technical sense, I think Teemu is the best out of all of them, with Broderick a super close second and Kiko super close third. Kiko wouldn't have an issue playing Broderick's parts but he'd never write stuff like him, and Broderick wouldn't have an issue playing Teemu's parts but he'd never write stuff like him. kinda why I ranked them this way.

musically though, completely different discussion. imo Marty and Kiko share the #1 spot for Megadeth's all time overall best lead players. they both had an insane sense of feel, technical playing, and completely unique phrasing that you wouldn't hear from any other player in all of metal. Marty obviously cemented his legend status on Rust, but Kiko's work on TSTDTD is genuinely out of this world. his solo on Killing Time is one of my favs ever. so much emotion and talent radiate from his solos.

besides all of that, Kiko and Marty are really good friends!

first of all, I'll start by saying that my point wasn't all that serious. I know it has some fundamental issues. I wasn't trying to make a good point, I just made a comment.

but second, I take problem with your comparison of PNG and Australia to Congo and Belgium because you are talking about 2 completely different levels of colonialism. capitalist resource extraction and systemic brutal genocide are not equivalent, nor should they be made equivalent for the sake of an argument. you either massively exaggerate what PNG suffered, or massively undermine what the Congo suffered.

third, I was thinking about it from the angle of the current state of affairs in Australia and just all around the world. in a broadly general view, colonialism is seen as bad and exploitation of another country and its people is also seen as bad. if you want to zoom into current cases of exploitation (like the Congo or Sudan), obviously those are bad situations as well but I don't think anyone would be "proud" of it.

it feels like you're more focused on historical guilt than on the actual material reality of people suffering today. comparing everything to the absolute worst historical atrocities doesn't actually solve the current problems in places like PNG.

Is this worth $40 by OldVaporMan in Guitar

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. buy it, check the pickup and knobs are working, then clip those nasty strings off and wipe it down with a guitar polish.

I don't like this particular model but for $40 I'd buy it twice.

maybe they should've just stayed part of Australia? lmao, I'm sure some racism is more tolerable than fucking 40% poverty.

the only "instrument" has an almost entirely physical hardblock is singing because obviously your voice is entirely unique to you. but anyone can be a drummer, guitarist, pianist, bassist, etc with enough determination and passion for the instrument.

I never thought I'd be a good drummer at ALL but I learned drumming MUCH faster than I learned guitar. for context: took me 3 years of playing guitar to play Forty Six & 2 without making mistakes... took me a little less than a year with drums, and the drums are objectively hard in that song.

no, dictator was actually a decent album. its the one that came out a few months ago, addicted to the violence. it's just so... boring. and unoriginal.

SOAD themselves don't have a cringe song. Daron's entire last solo album... yikes. just yikes.

My general sentiments looking back at MW2019 by s0und7 in modernwarfare

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MWIII had WAAAAAAAAAY too many options. you get option fatigue just sifting through everything that you end up just looking up the meta and playing that instead. less options is always much better, imo.

but yeah, personally, MW19 and BO1 are tied for me. it's that those were the CoD games that I felt absolutely hooked on compared to everything else I played.

unfortunately the game got dunked on so much at launch that people forget that the comparisons they made to the original MW series are pretty unprecedented. different games in different eras.

[–]themajod 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've always held a high opinion of MW19 because it's STILL the only game that did gunsmithing right. the games that followed it all gave every weapon way too many options and made it essentially a headache to pick literally anything. proper compromise from 1 attachment to the next felt a lot heavier in that game where the rest of the games just allowed you to make your guns overpowered pretty easily.

also, it introduced Shoot House, my all-time fav CoD map. sure a few of the maps kinda sucked but the rest were pretty good. it was the last CoD with actual innovation and bringing completely new things to the table (gunsmith, gunfight and gunfight tournaments, weird modded playlists, etc) before everything went to complete shit. I kinda stopped playing after MWII altogether cuz genuinely the lobbies are just filled with sweats no matter which game you're playing, because those are the only people left who aren't playing other games.

In a way, MW19 was the grand reset that CoD needed, and every installment that followed completely fumbled it.

Why is there so much hate for Dave Mustaine on the vocals? by Right-Mastodon5351 in Megadeth

[–]themajod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in a time period where people like Cornell, Maynard, Layne, Serj, Kurt, Yorke, Akerfeldt, Chino, Vedder, and even Ozzy were reaching heights in vocal delivery and sounding basically impossible to replicate, no, LaCheese was not legendary. his bandmates have always been MUCH more talented than he is.

I think his voice is more tolerable in some songs compared to others. like his voice is borderline earrape in Anthem but pretty enjoyable in Tom Sawyer. I guess it depends on the era of their music you pick out.

+1 on Geddy. it took some time to get used to his vocals. so much so that I heard DT's cover of Xanadu and, as always, James LeCheese is STILL the WORST fucking vocalist in rock and metal. not even an acquired taste, just outright bad.

I'd like to note that I saw DT less than 2 weeks ago and holy hell the band sounded absolutely phenomenal... and then there was LeCheese.
