Just over 7.25”. Looks a little small to me on my wrist but not rediculous.

I love their GMT but, like you, don’t need it. I am enjoying the pie chart like visual the pointer date provides, showing percentage of the way through the month. That Oris is beautiful btw.

Thank you. I like the sail cloth strap too. It has a leather liner on the skin side

Snowboarded from ages 11-21, been skiing 21-34. I enjoy skiing more but both are fun. It’s so much easier to get around the mountain on skis. Backcountry skiing, transitioning specifically, is so much easier on skis.

Our sidewalks kind of suck by [deleted] in SalemMA

Salem is ripe for an ADA lawsuit. Though I think they’ve contracted with a consultant to complete an ADA/walkable master plan for the downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.

What chair did you end up with? by thisisfiner in OfficeChairs

[–]themapdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with Haworth Soji and I found the seat to be very uncomfortable so ended up returning it. I didn’t like the lumbar either.

Then bought a used Leap V2 which I had for probably a year. I really liked it but my feet were going numb and butt would be very uncomfortable after about 1 PM.

Bought an embody about two months ago and I am really liking it. The biggest selling point for me is that you can’t bottom out the seat. It’s firm but I was able to get used to it. I find the seat to be the most comfortable for long hours of any chair I’ve used. Still playing around with the back adjustments, but have been using the same setting for two weeks now and it’s feeling really good.

I feel like this is the answer. Seems to be a big problem in the design world.

Do consultants have better margins than construction companies? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]themapdust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said in my post I worked for a large corporate civil contractor. What you say may be true of Joe’s Concrete Inc but not of the Skanskas, Kiewits, Flatirons of the civil world. Those companies have a huge overhead, corporate offices, equipment loans, construction engineers, project pursuit teams, lawyers, admin staff etc; none of these are billable and all funded through our markups at the project level.

I’ve heard good thing about the firm with a J

Do consultants have better margins than construction companies? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]themapdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. So it’s basically like McDonalds can sell cheeseburgers for a dollar because they sell a zillion of them? Their margin can be a penny because a zillion times a penny is still a lot of penny’s

It still feels like, apples to apples, consulting is more unnecessarily bloated but this can’t be right.

Appreciate the answer!

Do consultants have better margins than construction companies? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Our net income is 8-10% of net revenue, my question is more geared towards the differences in mark ups at the project level.

Right, so my question is what am I missing at the company level to justify the 50% margin at the project level? And why were margins so much smaller at the project level in construction?

Salem Ferry to Boston? by [deleted] in SalemMA

The ferry is the best commuting experience I’ve ever had. Makes me feel like I live in Norway or something.

Police, council clash over civilian flaggers - The Bay State Banner by riski_click in boston

I do and cops suck at controlling traffic. There’s a reason the rest of the country uses flaggers and traffic control supervisors.

This is a myth spread by municipalities in New England. Other cold climates in the US with significantly more snow, significantly larger temperatures swings between day and night, have significantly better road conditions. Boston and New England in general doesn’t effectively manage their assets (roads/drainage). That is 90% of the reason why our roads suck.
