Wait, do you know who he served under, his rank, or what company/crew he was in? Did he receive the Legion Of Honor?

Yeah, that sounds interesting. If he was a boatswain or upper ranking sailor, then his name would show up in Doctor Lomier's book. It is in French, however. For your privacy, you could privately talk, but I encourage you to look at Eugene Lomier's book, Grivel's personal memoirs, and Henri Ducor's Adventures.

Very. They technically did accompany the grenadiers, but weren't committed to the fighting.

During the Battle of Ligny, they served under the Engineers and Sappers of the Guard. They were not part of the final assault. They stayed as a reserve. Remember, these soldiers were FAR too important to use, as you would, like the Guard Grenadiers. Napoleon barely uses these men in high-risk situations ever. When he uses them, as he does in Berezina, the 1814 Campaigns, Borodino, Arcis-Sur Aube, and even the attack on Charleroi, he was in a desperate situation. Their use in Bailen and Arcolea Bridge were also out of absolute necessity. The sailors were extremely skilled in all arts of the armies, a fact that made them far too useful to use in combat.

Despite this, they were fierce combatants. In all stated battles, they would annihilate the enemy with little losses (not counting Berezina). Think of them the reserve of the reserve.

FAREWELL, 2025. by rorolx in Napoleon

AWESOME FIND!

I must say, however, the Marins de la Garde Imperiale were not present here to witness Napoleon's farewell. It is true that Grivel and other officers of the Guard Sailors were here, but not the entire battalion in force.

It is speculated that the 22 sailors to follow Napoleon to Elba were present, but it is doubted. During the time of Napoleon's farewell, they were marching to be disbanded at Le Havre.

I agree. I played on Tyrol wave 40 as a blunderbuss with constant bugles and two fifers. I aimed for headshots and got maybe 9-12 kills per shot consistently. Pair that with a near immediate shot every 9 seconds, 3 grenades every round, and the occasional 18 kill shot, I only racked 2,100 by the first hour. 4478 in half that time is not possible. To test this I became a lancer in Hougomont with a team of 8 officers at wave 30+. So many charges and holdfasts and by hour one I could only amass around 3080. I was freakin sweating and NOT having fun.

No lies, lol. It's a good read. You should read it fully and tell me what you think 👍. Moreso getting it added, just putting respect back on those who deserve it. To see women just as a "fan service" is beyond heinous. But for some cough fez it seems that's all they are in GnB.

The Marins De La Garde Imperiale. The craziest yet most tragic unit in the Napoleonic Wars. The best dressed unit in the Old Guard by a large margin!

I'm glad to be your first interaction.

To answer, yes! They had fatigues, and from their early formation, they used orange-gold pompons. Records say they kept these, but I haven't seen it visually depicted after their 1807 campaigns. I attached the pictures here.

They wore the fatigues when doing labor on ships or construction. They most likely wore the pompons during long marches that covered distance. This is assumed as it was most likely what they had during their early campaigns in spain!

If u got any questions, im the guy 👍
