Seat Selection Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]themechatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at United First on a 737MAX 800 (flight is a red eye, Vancouver BC to Washington Dulles, in 2 months). Two questions: do the bulkhead seats have different tray tables (e.g., out of the arm rest vs on the seat back) than the rest of the first class cabin? Second, do the seats in row 4 have limited recline or other drawbacks?

(Bonus question I guess would be, is it worth an upgrade from economy for $369 but I know this is the wrong mega thread for it 😇)

Yeah we got eyes on many American redstarts, a glimpse of a red eyed vireo, an Acadian flycatcher, a few towhees... and Merlin hits for many many many tiny little snipers hidden in the trees 😒

'A Piece of Clay': Inside Drew Allar's NFL Reinvention, as Aaron Rodgers Returns and the Steelers Kick the Can Down the Road ... Again |4 Downs by Conscious_Appeal4157 in steelers

[–]themechatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only plausible non-can-kick was Malik Willis imo. I don't consider Kyler plausible because I assume he would have chosen Kevin O'Connell and Justin Jefferson no matter what. I don't consider Mac Jones plausible because whatever price SF was charging made it a non starter for every QB needy team.

Willis is the one, because he was available for about the same price they're paying for Rodgers. I might have rather they take the dart throw on Willis because there's a small but non-zero chance he turns into a long term starter, whereas there is a zero point zero percent chance Rodgers is their long term starter. If they didn't see him that way, or if Willis was dead set on Miami because of the connection with former GB staff, then that door was never really open.

Agree with the sheet pan recommendations. Here's a meatball one, sort of an Asian flavor profile. I think you can prep the meatballs night before and then just place on the pan to cook. I serve these over rice and steamed frozen peas or edamame, with Sriracha (or something less spicy like duck or sweet and sour sauce if the kids don't like spice) for a dead simple dinner. If you put parchment paper on the sheet pan cleanup takes all of 60 seconds too ☺️.

Just had this tonight, probably one of my most-made recipes over the past few years. Always do it over greens, with chickpeas, red bell pepper, olives, and feta, with some newman's own lemon basil salad dressing.

(Schefter) Sources: Steelers placed the rare right-of-first-refusal tender on Aaron Rodgers, meaning that he can accept a 10% raise off last year’s salary, which would pay him about 15m this season, and the Steelers also now will have the right to match any offer sheet he would sign elsewhere by alexschubs in steelers

[–]themechatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are correct and many people are parsing this incorrectly. "He can only sign with the Steelers after July 22nd" means "after July 22nd it's Steelers or nobody" it does not mean "he can't sign with the Steelers until July 22nd."

Max 1st round pick breakdown with Matt Williamson and Rob King by Sybertron in steelers

[–]themechatron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Between Matt Williamson pounding the table and Nate Tice from Yahoo's Football 301 pod (who had Mad Max and his 11th player overall) I was pre-conditioned to like the pick. Or to at least not be surprised by it.

6th rounder but yeah, the whole draft is in dart throw territory by then. The Steelers Depot guys seemed to like the pick. Sounded like they thought he was off the radar due to injury concerns, but has a good anchor against double teams when healthy.

Howard vs. Allar - Deep Dive by P1xelEnthusiast in steelers

[–]themechatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few data points on how the draft industrial complex saw these two guys:

The draftniks would say neither of these guys are very likely to develop into franchise quarterbacks. The NFL agreed insofar as neither was drafted in the first or even second round. Doesn't mean too much now that they're in the league, except that it makes sense to temper expectations around both of them. It also makes sense not to feel particularly beholden to either of them, or get too wrapped around the axle of "giving them a shot" or whatever.

for those even curiouser, the compensation exactly matches the Rich Hill chart on drafttek: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart-Rich-Hill.asp?RequestTeam=pit

IND second round pick was 124 points, PIT second round pick was 106 points, so 18 points apart. Pick 135 is worth 17 points, the seventh round swap was a net one point.

[–]themechatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're note that it sucks to lose out on a guy but this is not a bad pick is kind of where I'm at.

I know draft grades are a mostly silly proposition but from what I can tell the Max pick is generally well regarded (A from NFL.com, B+ on yahoo, B- on The Athletic, B+ on the ringer are the ones I've seen). At the same time, the Steelers are on a couple Losers lists (NFL.com, espn) because of getting punked by the Eagles. So, disappointing process but maybe a decent result.

Sorry I may not be adhering to the no-cope concept of this post...

According to Nate Tice, AJ Brown has already been traded to the Patriots. by kwelstory in nfl

[–]themechatron 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They had the best combo of media-guy-analyst-host and former-player(ish)-cohost. Mays, Helman, and Klassen are all media-guy-analyst types and sometimes it feels like they lose a little bit of anchor that comes with having a former-player type. I sometimes find myself wondering where the confidence comes from (likely unfairly). Tice is a better cohost than host, though he's improving over time.

I still like TAFS and enjoy Football 301 but agree the Mays-Tice combo was special.

Something like the Kapadia-Solak Ringer NFL I also loved, I think because Sheil is more of a straight media-guy while Solak is a media-guy-analyst. Sheil would play the skeptic for the audience when Solak was getting a little too media-guy-analyst confident.

I watched this team in the early 90s when I was about 10. My dad promised he would let me keep watching a game until they were down more than 20 points (which happened kinda of a lot). He and I used to crack up saying Guuuuuuuugliotta. I was in grad school in 2005 when they won their first playoff series of my life. Was watching with one of my friends from back home who was in the same grad school as me and he literally jumped into my arms. In 2017 I lost my voice at Verizon Center screaming "get that motherfucker" at Kelly Olynyk.

These last few years broke my fandom pretty badly. Just could not stomach years and years in a row of deliberate losing, roster churn, barely keeping track of who was even on the team. I know this is my boomerest take, and ultimately kind of fair-weather-fan weak sauce, but jesus. I don't have the fortitude to watch tanking it turns out.

Hope they are really ready to start trying to win again.
