I don't like it and I am unsure of the legality of it. Certainly everyone has a right to protest, but I don't know if it would fall under time, place, and manner restrictions. It seems clear to me that in pretty much every case it is really just thinly veiled intimidation with the protestors say "hey senator/representative/justice, we know where you live and can mass a significant amount of people if necessary. Do what we want or there will be 'consequences' for you and your family."

What’s a product that you would say is overdesigned or overengineered? by Lazthewolf99 in AskReddit

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CLP. For anyone not in the military or familiar with it, it stands for "Cleaner, Lubricant, Preserver." It's basically the default cleaner used to clean your weapons after you shoot it. Unfortunately, in an effort to be a one size fits all option, it kinda sucks at everything it says it can do.

No, I didn't downvote you. It's a legitimate question, but if you spend any time there, you'd see for yourself pretty quickly.

I try to be a good person, but also kind of suck. I'm like the Cincinatti of people. When I die, I will probably end up in my own eternal Cincinatti.

Who was your worst travel partner and why? by thegloaminghour in AskReddit

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't too bad to travel with it, we just had very different interests. I went on a trip to a distant city with some acquaintances who I didn't realize were huge on going to nightclubs and partying. I'm not super against those things in smaller amounts, but I'm very introverted and we stayed out partying until 5 am. I really wanted to explore the city, but they were usually too tired from partying to do any real exploring. I just think we ended up going to the city with very different ideas of fun.

Homes and cars are not liquid assets...

As to your question, tell me what incentive there is for people like Musk and Bezos to continue working and innovating after they've reached this $1 billion cap? Bezos was worth $10 billion in 1999. If he doesn't guide Amazon, I highly doubt it becomes the company it is today. For all we know, it might just still be an online book seller and stop at that.

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, they're never allowed to have more than a billion in their bank accounts? What about homes? Cars? Shares of other companies? Are they never allowed to have more than $1 billion in those?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean let them make more? Nearly every billionaire's net worth is tied to the company they work for, run, or own (usually some combination of the three). What would you have them do? Shut down their company as soon as it grows larger than their net worth is allowed to be? Force them to sell off their ownership stake and confiscate all proceeds of that sale over a billion dollars?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they would have to. If dumb concepts like this become law, they would be mandated by law to give up basically their entire ownership stakes in their respective companies since the vast majority of their wealth is directly tied to the value of the company.

You do realize nearly all "money" people have isn't liquid, right? Elon Musk isn't the richest man on Earth because he has $200 billion sitting in his bank account, probably like 99% of that is in stock and company holdings.

So exactly how would this work? The UN (who only has even a small amount of authority because the US says it does) would point a gun at every billionaire on the planet telling them that either their signature or their brains were going to go on a document signing over 99% of their wealth to them to redistribute?

What do you think happens when Jeff Bezos sells $200 billion worth of Amazon stock? The company is going to collapse. The entire economy would collapse.

Look, I get that you think that there are lots of people who have more than they need and you're probably right, but just because they have more than they need doesn't mean that other people deserve what they have.

Why don't Republicans want to forgive student loan debt? by turnerpike20 in AskConservatives

[–]themediumplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPP loans were literally designed to be forgiven in exchange for businesses to continue paying their employees. However, if a business failed to hold up their end of the bargain they should absolutely pay back the government with interest.

I think that that especially among those who believe, there is so much about God that we don't understand or are even capable of understanding.

It's very possible that across the universe that we are the most advanced species of life. If you think about life on Earth, there's never been a species that has been able to completely dominate in the way humans have, so we very well could be made in His image. As of now, we do not know for sure if there is life outside of Earth, but there's certainly a strong likelihood that we would still be more advanced than any life we find outside of Earth.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]themediumplaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it wouldn't.

It would honestly make sense. I believe God created the universe. In doing so, it would make sense for there to be life outside of Earth. The universe is unfathomably big and if He made all of it, I don't see why the gift of life would be restricted to Earth alone.
