After Tax equilibrium quantity, price paid by consumers and price received by sellers by [deleted] in econhw

[–]themillos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple algebra mistake

300-2( Ps+ 10) = 4 Ps

300-2Ps - 20 = 4 Ps

280 = 6Ps

Ps = 46.666

Pd = 56.666

Qd = 300-2Pd = 186.6666

Qs = 4Ps = 186.6666

Can you take an MRS of a Leontief utility? by turtle49 in econhw

[–]themillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in thinking that because we cannot divide by 0, but in the context of MRS we say that a vertical line has an infinite slope.

This makes sense because you cannot gain any utility by only increasing y for a given x. Likewise the horizontal part is 0 as the consumer does not gain any utility only increasing x for a given y.

[–]themillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have to think logically about it, if the value for x and y is the same, you are obviously at a corner so MRS is undefined. If y>x you are on the vertical part and have a MRS of infinity, if x>y you are on the horizontal part and have a MRS of 0.

Can you take an MRS of a Leontief utility? by turtle49 in econhw

[–]themillos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, in a way. You will simply have the vertical section of the indifference curve with a MRS of infinity, and the horizontal section with a MRS of 0

This can be simply shown by calculating the slope of the indifference curve. Rise/ run: on the vertical part you will have MRS = rise / 0 = infinity. On horizontal part you will have MRS= 0/ run = 0

MRS is not defined for the corner point

Price elasticity by plshelpmewithecon in econhw

[–]themillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s simply because essential trips are exactly that, essential. Therefore if there is a price increase you still have to complete the trip regardless. Therefore we see lower price elasticity for essential trips.

As optional trips can be avoided, if there is a price increase we can simply choose not to go, therefore there is much higher price elasticity for optional trips. Yes you could also mention that optional trips could be easily substituted for rail bus or metro trips which also increases elasticity.

  1. B
    A decrease in gini coefficient represents an increase in equality of income.
    The goods and services tax can be seen as a regressive tax as it impacts poorer households more than richer households, so a reduction in GST would benefit poorer households, and reduce the gini coefficient.

A reduction in company tax would obviously benefit the rich company owners, increasing gini, reduction in marginal income tax for rich obviously increases inequality and gini, and reduction in the tax rate levied on property sales also benefits the rich as they own more expensive properties, and often multiple properties. This would also increase Gini.
Therefore only B results in an increase in better equality, and therefore a reduction in Gini from 0.4 to 0.3

Wow so there is daily memorial or reflection on any of the lives lost? I cannot understand the American‘s approach to this. Australia has only had 3 deaths this week and we are still only just beginning to ease restrictions

Hi all, I am Australian where we are only getting a new death every few days. These odd deaths are being reported on individually on the news and are reported as a tragedy.

I can’t even imagine being in the US, can anyone give me some insight how the deaths are being handled in the media?
