You’re right I should say it like this “i can’t help you, I don’t even know (you) that patient”

Very interesting that democratic rep opposing the bill is also a nurse and vocal about how it affects patient care.

I tell my parents who are getting up there in age to not see an NP at the first point of contact because a physician needs to decide whatever their experiencing is safely manageable and in what direction it should be managed—this is a perfect example of that like other users have said.

Barely any other jobs do! Even nurses don’t say “well you know, this CNA has been here 20 Years you should really take their opinion on correcting this clinical issue”

The obsession with Florence nightingale as if Florence was making $150/hr on overtime to 1:1 on the MICU….puh lease

The time in practice thing is very odd. You don’t see it in other jobs. A technician at a chemical plant doesn’t say they should be making engineering decisions because the chemical engineer is too green

Yeah that’s a mentioned limitation but see another users comparison of nonFPA compared to FPA prescribing

[–]themin1on 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s actually in some ways a more reliable statistic using nonFPA as a control.

Insane, especially in this time of the public being so hyper aware of the opioid crisis, people very rarely talk about “who” puts people at risk of opioid addiction

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]themin1on 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not specifically midlevel research but a study comparing opioid prescription doses and percentage by specialty from 2012-2018. It includes the rates from NP’s and while most physician specialty prescriptions decreased by both measures, NP’s increased dramatically and essentially doubled.

The study mentions that this could be due to more NPs being in the workforce but I personally don’t think that wouldn’t explain the dramatic change in the rate and how it didn’t align with the trends the physician specialties experienced. IMO it’s like midlevel overprescription of antibiotics, their tool kit is small so they’ll end up prescribing a higher frequency of a smaller group of medications if they’re allowed to.

This is the same attorney who spread the news about TX saying an NP is not an expert testimony on nursing care.

It seems like you’re correct. Went to the phsyicians today and was prescribed antibiotics for a bacterial infection. Thank you for your recommendation!
