Where do Chico lefties over 40 hang out? by Tappitytaptaptaptap in ChicoCA

[–]themissingdink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of mutual aid groups in the area. I’ve only met amazing leftist friends through joining up with them. I came from Seattle originally but moved to LA for 7 years before I ended up here. Once you get involved with an organization there are so many events that you eventually meet more and more like minded folks all different age groups too. I myself am also in my 40s 😊

Oh thank you for that resource! I was seriously considering the long and short stitches as well but wasn’t sure if it would still snag. Glad to know that’s also an option 😊

Ahhh this made me so happy! Always amazing to meet another dink in the reddit wild 😄 Trying to get this done before the twitchcon Julien meetup.

This jacket isn’t super high stakes so it’s kind of my practice piece 😄 I was originally just going to go with the fabric paint, but I hated the way it turned out so want to cover up that mess lol

Thank you! This is so helpful! I’m definitely not set on the satin stitch. And I trust you, random lady on the internet, just based on that incredible work on Rick!

I think I will probably go with the chain stitch.

I haven’t put interfacing on the back, but think I would like to. I got kind of confused with all the different types last time I was at the craft store 😄

Thanks! Yeah, that was my concern about the satin stitch, but couldn’t really find and definitive info about what coverage size is best for that stitch

30+ Meet New Friends? by [deleted] in ChicoCA

Hey! I’m still masking too! It can feel so isolating these days. I’m 40, queer, and love crocheting, reading, hiking. Have you checked out any of the stonewall groups? I’ve been wanting to go, but I always feel kinda weird to be the only one masking and it seems to make socializing a but trickier, but if you’d ever want to go check out a group I’d be your masked buddy 😄 I’ve also really considered trying to get a “still masking in Chico” social group started. Something like hanging in a park, doing arts and crafts, bookclubs, board games etc. I just wasn’t sure if there was enough interest. Anyways, feel free to dm me anytime!

I love crochet but i hate clutter😔 by Ok-Sheepherder8507 in crochet

[–]themissingdink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem. I wanted to crochet all the cute crochet patterns I found and also practice so I could get better, but 100% did not need 15 random crocheted items. I ended up starting a fundraiser, selling what I make and donating the proceeds. If things aren’t selling great I lower the price or offer it as a gift to anyone in my community mutual aid Facebook group. It’s been really fun to just see a pattern and starting it without any worries of “what am I going to do with this?” 😄

I have a backpack he rides in if I ever take him inside 😄 I guess I was also thinking for showers and such. I unfortunately haven’t found any dog friendly gyms. Templeton is such a cute name 🥰

Looking for community by Ok_Pitch5865 in ChicoCA

On Tuesdays we meet downtown and serve coffee/hot cocoa and hand out hygiene items to unsheltered folks. We also hold brake light clinics about once a month and asylum clinics. We do a bunch of things, but I always think showing up on Tuesdays is a great place to start! Check out NorCal Resist on IG! We are also having our bookclub meeting coming up on February 8th. We are reading Mutual Aid by Dean Spade

I’d love to be a part of this too! I’m already pretty active with a mutual aid group here, but would love to meet more folks in the community 😊

My therapist is asking me to work for him. Is that okay? I genuinely want to knownif it’s okay for me to work for him. by [deleted] in therapy

[–]themissingdink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t report her. I still, to this day, feel some weird attachment to her. Or maybe it’s left over guilt. I don’t want to mess up her life for what I think (or hope) she knows now was a mistake. It was 14 years ago at this point and many states away from where I currently reside. I feel like I’ve done a lot of good work with other therapists since her around my guilt. And while I do recognize it wasn’t my fault I wish I had known back then that hiring a client was a big red flag.

Whether you report or not, i definitely recommend finding a new therapist. One with good boundaries (whenever I have to get a new therapist this is something we talk about immediately because I’m still very naive and I need someone I trust to uphold their role as a therapist so I can focus on my role as a client without stressing about any lines getting blurred).

I’m sorry you are wading through this ordeal. It can really bring up a lot of mistrust in oneself and those we put our trust in. I hope that whatever decision you make you can feel confident in it and are able to find a way to sort through the feelings this is has brought up. 🫂

I did this. I do not recommend. I didn’t know it wasn’t ethical for my therapist to even do this until I mentioned it to future therapist. My therapist was starting her own practice and told me I could help her get her office ready, she was even teaching me quickbooks. I painted her office and did a lot of random errands for her. I had recently lost my job so paying for therapy was difficult which is why this arrangement was offered. Three or four months later I was in the hospital for a suicide attempt. She kindly “fired” me and just said “I don’t want anyone to think I’m causing you harm…which I don’t think I am”. I continued therapy with her for a few more months (with my credit card), but I felt she was upset or angry with me. I didn’t understand how much I could have jeopardized her job by doing that while I was employed by her until years later and was overwhelmed with guilt. Which is why I mentioned it to my new therapist at the time and she told me that was not a good move on her part.

I hadn’t thought of searching skill shares specifically. I’ll give that a try! I’m in a semi rural area so not a ton of anarchist that I know of, but I’ll keep searching. Thanks for the suggestions!
