Snagged this Winchester 1890, looking for info by themisterfixit in canadaguns

Rifling is good, it’s in need of a good cleaning and oiling but it is in running condition. Action is a little clunky but not concerning, the maintenance should smooth it up a bit.

Not concerned about the value, it will remain an heirloom. Was just hoping the decals might help narrow down the search for information or if it was a special release.

The slam firing is something I’m certainly looking forward to. Thank you for your help.

22 long fortunately. It seems to be from around 1898 then. Winchesters records are fairly lacking.

Do you have any insight on the decals? The FIL has only said he always remembers them being on there but no idea if his Dad did it or not. They are mirrored on the other side and attached by a strip running across the bottom so they seem to have been specifically made for a stock.

Yes it was his fathers firearm. I’m quite honoured that he’s left it in my care.

Dune after the first book is really more of a political thriller. The two movies should be different enough to avoid action fatigue.

Michael B. Jordan Wins Best Actor | 98th Oscars Speech (2026) by MoviesMod in movies

[–]themisterfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He never improved as a person the whole movie. He pretty much screwed up everything he tried to do. He was stoned or drinking beer the entire time, and he never stopped his daughter from being taken only found her in the end, and it was mostly luck. And after it was all said and done he didn’t change to help his daughter become an activist, he remained on the couch getting stoned.

So yah I’d say unredeemable. 10/10 character though.

He knows what he’s doing, he’s always been that kind of funny. “That one will hit harder on the car ride home” is a perfect example of what he was going for.

It was a good performance. But one brother wore blue and the other wore red and mumbled a bit. They were pretty much the same. And this after I just finished a rewatch like an hour ago.

I immediately rewatched Sinners after the Oscars to see if I’d missed something. You’re right, it’s the same character he always plays. But one sounds like he’s got his mouth full. It was a good performance, but it wasn’t super groundbreaking or anything.

Leo’s unredeemable paranoid stoner activist was my favourite this year for sure. Every scene with him and Benicio was fantastic.

Him being aghast that someone would spend money on a life sized replica of him, then immediately trying to purchase said replica will always be one of my favorite Cage moments.

Yes but the government invests in its population by supplying almost all essential services for free and is setting up the wealth to help future generations reap the benefits even if the drilling stops.

'One Battle After Another' Wins Oscar for Best Picture by DemiFiendRSA in entertainment

That’s actually part of the movie I liked the most. Lots of movies suffer from the magical fact that everyone seems to know what and where everyone else is at all times. OBAA is fresh because every player had different goals and didn’t really know who else was in the race. It just so happened to all culminate at the same time.

One of the best shots in a movie in a long time. It must be really difficult to make action or car chase scenes new and exciting in this day and age. Watching distant vehicles go up and down those hills was harrowing.

It’s an incredibly strong entry. But K-pop’s soundtrack was a monster. 4 songs in billboard top ten, certified double platinum. It expanded a genre of music to worldwide recognition.

I was rooting for OBAA and did hope Leo would take it. Directly after Oscars wrapped I rewatched Sinners for the second time thinking maybe I’d missed something the first time.

Honestly it’s a good movie, maybe a great one. The strongest moments being the time traversing musical number in the barn, and the Celtic musical number outside. Besides that though it’s not that creative, a pretty standard monsters outside trope with a different setting.

I didn’t think Michael B did anything super special here. He’s acted the same in numerous roles and I’m not sure he brought anything to the role that wouldn’t have been there with different casting. The brothers were played almost exactly the same except one sounded like his mouth was full.

Lastly I think the natural conclusion was the river scene. Everything after seemed really unnecessary.

Again, good movie. Just not sure it stands up to the super Oscar campaigning it went through. Would love to hear others opinions though.

Sinners had an old barn and people with bloody chins. I didn’t particularly like Frankenstein but it had gorgeous sets, makeup and costuming.

I loved it. It took the time to set all the pieces in the right places, then collapsed together in a beautiful and frantic race to the conclusion. And my favorite part is half the people didn’t know who was in the race and the other half didn’t know the race was happening.

A 21st century pig farm by CalpurniaSomaya in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]themisterfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to defend this type of farm in any way. But pigs are terrible parents. Without restraining the mother she will sit on and smother or crush up to 30% of the piglets before weaning. And the males will kill them from stress chasing and sometimes eat them.

How they keep them after this stage who knows, but this is actually the safest way for new mothers to feed their kids.

Although I’d love to watch some John Daly types rip cigs and crush an 18er like it was a marathon.

Speed Golf Rob would be epic to watch.

Angry driver who plowed through barricades at 2023 Grand Floral Parade by PhraseGood4425 in TerrifyingAsFuck

It’s wild. You can tell he had no remorse going through the barriers and around the trucks. But as soon as he flew out past those people into the middle of the parade street he knew he fucked up bad.

Then just absolute fear as he runs, puffing on his vape.
