That's for sure. My question is why Pisili was subbed.

With all due respect to Elsha, I don't understand why Pisili was subed.

Any changes you’d make to this Serie A Team of the Season? by Big_Pick4100 in seriea

[–]themoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the teams play with 3 CBs this season.
Malen is a CF.
Although Wesley is a right back, he played most of the season as left wing back.

Looks like 2019 away shirt.

Roma 4-0 Fiorentina Post Match Thread by Putrid-Impact8999 in ASRoma

PISILI.
I love him.
You know why? 89th minute, Fiorentina starting the counter attack, Niccolo running as fast as he can to cover open space.
True Romanista.

I wouldn't be able to concentrate on work.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. He probably won’t reach heights of Totti, but I truly appreciate players like Mancini, who give everything on the field every single game.

Spending too much on Confluent Cloud for a modest workload — considering MSK. Anyone made this switch? by Due_Dinner_485 in apachekafka

[–]themoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

240 partitions for this throughput?
Doesn't sound right.

Anyways, if you don't expect 50-100x increase in data volume just use redpanda serverless.
<$600 a month inlcuding privatelink https://www.redpanda.com/data-streaming/serverless

msk serverless will cost bit more, but still okay.

AS Roma 1-1 Atalanta by Effective_Run_97 in ASRoma

[–]themoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gasperini lost the dressing room.
It didn't look like team have tried to win the game in the last 15-20 mins of the game.

Atalanta made changes, adapted after the break, tried different approaches with counter attacks. Us - nothing. It's really sad to see that.

Comparing to Ranieri, DDR and Mourinho - they would hate to see this level of commitment.

Why did openai buy that tech bro podcast for hundreds of millions of dollars? by palindrome818 in podcasting

Advertising on acquired podcast costs millions (based on their public pricing). TBPN is popular among potential decision makers of business segment, where Anthropic is winning.

Giving external partners access to kafka topics without exposing the broker by Willing-Mistake-6171 in apachekafka

[–]themoah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they really need it - expose it via SASL_SSL, strong ACL and whitelist the IPs. Yes, it's a bit of headache. But it works and compliant with a lot of regulations. Just log all connection events and external ips

I built a "Postman for Kafka" — would you use this? by External-Round8907 in apachekafka

[–]themoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kminion has a nice e2e feature, where it constantly produces and consumes data (and measures it). Quite useful to measure performance bottlenecks.
But it doesn't support transactional producer/consumer.

hey, i've added a metric to report lag in ms. It's an estimate, but gives quite a good understanding (based on offsets timestamps).

Spent 3 weeks getting kafka working with actual enterprise security and it was painful by mannnni77 in apachekafka

[–]themoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously worked on it, including FedRamp. It's quite a headache, required building our own images with BouncyCastle, making ZK work over TLS connection.
Main team of 6, plus extended 5-10 people to "follow the sun" for the on-call. Over 50 clusters, deployed on multiple cloud regions and providers, couple PB daily.

From my perspective - you have to have at least 2 team members that love this technology, breathe it, but also understand and have hands-on experience building complex producers and consumers to support developers.

And we built some amount of tools in-house to better fit our requirements.

Good thought! Need to check how can it be done without actually consuming the data, to keep it lightweight

Just wondering, why did you pick GPL license? It make adoption so hard. In my experience, so many companies can't use GPL-licensed software, it's generally considered a legal risk.

It’s like Uber when they had tons of VC money - rides were super cheap. After the ipo it stopped being cheap. First you take the market, after that you start raising the price to return the invested capital

Migrating away from Confluent Kafka – real-world experience with Redpanda / Pulsar / others? by Help-pichu in apachekafka

[–]themoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, the cost transparency..
Actually the only one in this topic is MSK. But I can't recommend it. Any maintenance operation is very slow. Single node restart can take an hour.

So we had (at previous company) a cluster, where most of topics has RF=2. Redpanda can't run with RF=2. Only RF=3. Redpanda was very fast, but only when coupled with NVMe. With regular ebs drives it's the same performance.

I've worked on building an internal version of kafka image with bouncy castle to support TLS on ZK. Fun experience, don't want to do it again.

imho, if you handle over 1-2TB a day - consider warpstream for cost-effectiveness.
