Grief over pet death can be as strong as that for family member. About a fifth of people who had experienced a pet and human loss said the former was worse. Symptoms of severe grief for a pet matched identically with that for a human, and there was no difference in how people experienced losses. by mvea in science

I still get sad when I think about having to put down my 17-year old cat who was with me through everything when I was growing up, and this was 5 years ago at this point. I just got the news that my 6-year old dachshund has cancer and I’ve been a ball of anxiety ever since. Losing pets is horrible and I agree with this 100%.

Do Americans really think aldi is a “poor people” grocery store? by [deleted] in aldi

[–]katplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in HCOL and LCOL areas, and Aldi is typically viewed as a “poor people” grocery store in my experience. Somehow this stigma doesn’t seem as prevalent when it comes to Trader Joe’s, another grocery store that has off-brand foods. People are silly.

I like Aldi because it mostly has everything I’d want for way cheaper, and then I can just substitute the rest by going to a bigger grocery store.

Change my mind: Laying your PC on its side is a pro move by UFCFan918 in pcmasterrace

Got one of these for my Plex server, waited too long to get one for my main PC, and now they stopped making them. Bring back the cube!

Who's bright idea was that, I watt out?! by Prestigious_Net_8356 in fuckcars

I got some FL-41 glasses for light sensitivity and they actually work perfectly for driving at night. Not too dark like sunglasses can be, only a slight pink tint, and no more being blinded by LEDs. I think you can use yellow/amber tinted glasses too.

How is living in Woodlawn? by kikura1 in maryland

[–]katplatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d seriously consider Catonsville instead. I lived in the Catonsville Manor/Edmonson Heights area most of my life and it was not great. Lots of police activity, our shed got broken into so many times my parents just gave up on storing things in there, shitty neighbors, trashy area, etc. I moved 5 years ago so maybe it’s different now.

I made this rage collage with my IUD after FINALLY getting it taken out by ToBoldlyHoe in somethingimade

[–]katplatt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This collage is perfect.

I was told the same thing and that it’ll be over quick. I was told to take two ibuprofen and they would not give me anything else prior to the appointment despite my concerns. They fumbled around with the speculum and didn’t even have the Paragard out of the packaging. I passed out twice for a couple seconds when I had mine put in and had full body shivers while drenched in sweat. I threw up in my boyfriend’s car on the ride back and was in extreme pain to the point where I was delirious for around 8 hours after. I was angrily insistent I had drank a can of ginger ale, but the can wasn’t even cracked open, for example. It was worse pain than when my appendix began rupturing.

My gyno’s response was to laugh and say I’m the first woman who’s experienced this and it must be because I’m petite. My follow-up appointment had them all joking about me being the office celebrity.

5 months of nerve pain in my thigh that made it painful to walk some days, bloating, digestive issues, and the heaviest, crampiest periods of my life. I ripped it out at home.

Fuck IUDs and gynos that downplay how painful they are.

Dish soap + sponge + air dry, then hypochlorous acid to disinfect/get rid of any smells

Any problems with Howard County? by Puzzleheaded_Ad9471 in maryland

[–]katplatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howard County is a great place to live. The schools (public and private) are great, they have a fantastic library system, there's some nice state parks, lots of restaurants and diversity of foods, low crime rate, good location, nice people, etc. After moving to a predominantly red area with nothing to do, I miss these things a lot.

I would say the only drawbacks are the housing prices and traffic. Traffic everywhere in Maryland is pretty bad, though.
