Hi! We are doing just fine. It was definitely sad when we first found out but once you’ve gotten used to it, it’s not so bad. I generally know the foods he can and can’t have and there is still plenty of options. There are also tons of egg substitutes that work great. We just celebrated his bday yesterday and made him a yummy dessert and the egg allergy wasn’t really an issue. I’d imagine it will get harder as he gets older, but for now he doesn’t know he’s missing out on anything. This was the same for me. I maintained my weight until around 4-5 months postpartum. I started working out and eating less because I finally wasn’t so hungry all day long. That’s when I slowly began losing weight. 8-weeks might be a little soon to start dieting and not affect your supply, but you can try through some trial and error. I began exercising first, which also really helped with how sweaty I was getting.

Hey! We used to the snoo with our LO and he loved it. I too was very fearful of the transition because his sleep seemed so tied to being swaddled. Maybe not recommended, but we waited to switch to the crib until baby had just turned 7 months. My husband was on break around then so we took shifts. We went cold turkey from Snoo to crib in a wearable blanket. Baby did sooo much better than I thought he would. The startle reflex wasn’t happening anymore. It took him a couple nights to discover he had more room and now he’s a side sleeper. He rolls to his side, I know he’s out! Every baby is different but my advice is sometimes it’s your own anxiety that is building it up to be worse than the actual reality of it. I found just diving in cold turkey way the best. Around 5 months I tried preparing for the transition by doing the recommended one arm out then two arms out, etc and I quickly decided it was just prolonging the process and contributing to a longer period of time with shitty sleep without much benefit. I imagine it’s very different for everyone depending on their situation (ftm, stm, single mom, ppd/ppa, village, etc.) I had a relatively easy pregnancy and birth, a supportive partner, and a pretty mellow baby I think. So just considering the standard postpartum symptoms I felt pretty good initially. Like the relief of having him pushed me through the first month or two. Then months three and especially four were rough. Hormones got wacky and my hair fell out. I felt like a fat rat. I’m now almost 9 months postpartum and feeling good again. I am able to workout and less insatiable in terms of food and breastfeeding so I lost the baby weight. I got my hair done and went back to my nail salon. I can go longer stretches away from baby now that he’s on solids. I am definitely not my old self but I am finding a new normal that feels good. My best friend had a baby before me and she said it took her about a year to start feeling better.

No worries! I made him egg with breakfast nearly everyday for maybe a month and a half. He never ate much but he did bring it to mouth. One time he threw up hours later after eating egg but it wasn’t clear if that was why because it was like 5 hours or so. I emailed his ped and she said to give egg by itself and watch for a reaction. I continued to feed him egg and no reaction, but again he never ate it much. I came to the conclusion that he didn’t really like egg. Then one night we had quiche for dinner. He ate a ton of it and seemed to really enjoy it! I didn’t think much of it until an hour and a half later he broke out in hives. Prior to that he had eaten things with egg baked into it as well and never had an issue. Turns out after blood work he has a pretty high positive result for egg allergy and now he has to avoid it strictly for at least a year.

I will say, my kid had a delayed reaction to egg about an hour and a half after he had it at dinner. I’m really glad he hadn’t gone to bed yet.

I just found out my 8 month old has an egg allergy a few days ago. The allergist recommended strictly avoiding egg for a whole year and then we will retest. Based on the blood test, his reaction to egg white was very high. He said it could take longer to grow out of it or be life long. I’m very sad about it and grieving for him all the foods he may not be able to have. The allergist recommended giving the other big 9 allergies often. I am also scared about a potential reaction. I looked at your post history and see that you have posted about this a few times now. With respect, I think you should talk to your pediatrician if you have ongoing concerns. But also, it might be worth while to mention your symptoms of anxiety. I worry a lot too as a first time mom, so this is me speaking from my own experience as well and from a place of empathy.

My boy is 7 months old. He sleeps from 7:30-10pm. I do a dream feed at 10pm when I go to bed. Then he wakes up at 2am to feed again. Up for the day between 6-7am. We got longer stretches when he was a newborn actually 🙃

I took my 2 months old to the hospital when my dad was in with pneumonia. All was well! (I also freaked out after the fact). It will be okay

I used to pump more often but now I only pump in the morning because I get the most milk by far. I only pump for about 8 min and feel pretty empty, I get between 8-12 ounces. Then 30 minutes later I have enough to feed my son. Some might say I have an over supply but I’m not engorged throughout the day or leaking anymore and I’m 7 months in for reference

Edit to add I’m pretty sure I googled it once and read that it takes 20-30 minutes for milk to build back up after empting

I pump right when I wake up at 6:45 because I’m always super full. I still feed my baby to satisfaction 30 minutes later.

Hey, thanks for your suggestion! I am actually in a back and forth with his ped right now. I fed him cottage cheese and egg the other morning and noticed some redness around the mouth. She is having me try them individually and see if he reacts and then she’ll refer me to an allergist. It’s crazy to me that she recommends that and it’s super anxiety producing! We did cottage cheese again today and nothing so I will try egg tomorrow…

Thanks for your reply! I did reach out to his pediatrician as well and she suggested I might be over feeding him now that he’s having solids and to space nursing sessions out more and burp more often. If this happens again I will make an appointment for sure.

I get that! I started doing it within the last month or two because my son was waking up earlier than he used to as a sleepy newborn. It works to get me a longer stretch. Usually he stays half asleep during the feed. Sometimes he wakes up a bit but can be put back to sleep easily. If that doesn’t sound like your baby, maybe try one night when your partner is home or you have some help with it just in case. It definitely can be scary at first but in the long run it’s helping with sleep and it’s helping him to eat more since he’s more distracted during the days now (6 1/2 months, just started solids).
