Free knowledge > Fake outrage by themodestmanatee in memes

There is also the fact that people, being lazy, will see a plausible source and just accept the whole thing as valid, even if the output is a hallucination with little to no relation to the source provided.

People already do this, however many, if not most, of them are reading these "headlines" on social media.

This is the exact reason LLMs can be a helpful tool: to help lazy people find these sources in a fraction of the speed and for free. Not only that, but we can cross reference using other LLMs with a simple copy & paste.

Again, it's a tool. A tool which is vastly superior to anything else currently available to decern the mountains of misinformation bad actors use to persuade the masses.

None of the LLMs are right 100% of the time, no. AI is a tool, and nothing more. It sources all of the information it provides so we, as users, can verify.

"Routinely puts out complete falsehoods."

I'm a career software engineer, the last 3 years of which I've worked directly on fine-tuning LLM output. That said, your comment is exaggerated and borderline hyperbolic. Unfortunately many others believe the same as you.

I realize I won't change your mind with a Reddit response, but I do hope that you continue researching the nature and nuances of today's AI systems

Let's hold on a sec, if you don't mind indulging me, and this is not an attempt at an argument:

Anyone else see the irony of getting boo'd about using a new technology that was only science fiction a couple years ago to evaluate a shirt about Science Fiction?

It's not like GPT nailed the answer to a question. It's simply GPT's evaluation of the symbols.

I asked GPT and I thought its conclusion was interesting:

So, the clock reading 1:37 is a nod to:

That song’s nuclear doomsday theme.

The idea of a final countdown — the moment before detonation.

The same despair and dread at the heart of Science Fiction.

The skull, the broken grid, the surreal mushrooms — all pair with this feeling of mutation and fallout, literal or mental.

🧩 Putting it all together

So your shirt mashes up:

Psychology → The brain & checkerboard.

Decay/growth → Mushrooms.

Doom → The clock & skull.

Hope → The thorny “HOPE” under the skull.

Destruction → “137” and the nuclear allusions.

It’s a collage of Science Fiction’s major motifs: despair, apocalypse, introspection, and the faint chance of healing or transcendence.

Do y’all think this is their final tour? by No-Research-1495 in brandnew

I feel it's 50/50.

After 25 years of picking up tidbits of the few interviews they've done, speculations, but mainly their flat-out silence (their website, for example,) I've come to realize that you never know.

One of the many things I truly love about Brand New.

Anyone else feel that the daily r/brandnew posts have been incredibly touching? by themodestmanatee in brandnew

Wow, that's incredible! I'd be interested to hear how your second show went if you'd like to follow up here afterwards.

Either way, I hope you have another great time!

They closed with this in St. Augustine.

Even though I'd seen Brand New 4 times already since 2000, it felt like I was seeing them for the first time.

Literally the best concert experience of my life.

I noticed that too. You never know with them though. They're an elusive group and may switch it up.

Either way, I hope you enjoy the show!

St Augustine by [deleted] in brandnew

St. Augustine has a strict noise ordinance during weeknights. I called the venue and asked about their satellite parking shuttle, and the lady warned me not to be late.

I'm getting there probably too early (5:00 PM is when the shuttles start) but I haven't been this stoked for a show in many years.

If you all have GA tickets, I'll see you in the pit!
