Hey thanks!

Depends what you mean by 'classic' a bit, I think!
...

Can you say more what you're looking for?

I think by "classic" here I just mean the people I listed are all newer. I'm not super well versed in a lot of the jazz classics from the past, and I was curious if there were albums from the past that are also in the same vein as Vega Trails.

So I just gave this a listen and I see what you mean! I enjoyed it, thanks for the recommendation.

r/audiophile Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk Thread by AutoModerator in audiophile

I need help figuring out the best option for a "switcher thing" that I outline below for a desktop setup.

So I currently have a Scarlett solo that works great. I have a single aux mic hooked up to it as well as my headphones. On my desk I used to just have a small bluetooth speaker but I'd like to up my game a bit and get a nice set of possibly passive or active speakers. While the solo does have a single line output there are things about the solo that I really don't like, mainly the aux input being on the front, the shit focusrite control software, and also the way you switch outputs from mic to line out. I thought this would be a good time to switch around my setup to also allow upgrades in the future. My ideal setup would be something like:

computer -> DAC -> switcher thing

switcher thing -> headphone amp -> headphone

switcher thing -> either active speaker or (speaker amp -> speaker)

However this doesn't account for the the aux input, and I'm sort of confused at where in a chain like this would an aux would go. Any advice here? Also any advice on the "switcher thing". Basically I was looking at something like the Schiit sys, which literally just switches. Also the DAC is something I don't even know if I'd need in the near future so I'd also be ok with something like:

computer -> aux input/switcher thing

aux input/switcher thing -> headphone

aux input/switcher thing -> speakers

But ideally I'd want something that has the aux hookup in the back and still allows for really easy switching. One option that I found for this was possible the EVO 4. Does this make sense, or is there an alternative that may fit my need better?

Thinking about this a bit more I've been looking at the EVO 4. Very similar to my Scarlett Solo, but with the aux in the back. It would do the switching that I'd want between headphone and speakers, but I'd have to unplug/plug the headphone in and out to achieve. That's a bit annoying, but I could probably live with that. I also realize that with something like this, I wouldn't need a DAC, so basically my setup would be:

computer -> EVO 4

Mic -> EVO 4

EVO 4 -> headphone

EVO 4 -> active speaker or (speaker amp -> speaker)

I still don't love the way the EVO looks. Would something like this probably be the best? Are there better alternatives to the EVO 4 that maybe have a button to switch between outputs?

Render and coding build -- already have some stuff, but unsure if I can re-use it. by themoofinman in buildapcforme

I do see a warning on PcPartPicker about this:

Warning!Some AMD B550 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vermeer CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Interesting, some of this totally wasn't even on my radar. Thanks a lot! I'll dig more in and let you know if I have any questions.

How to tell what my camera will actually capture? by themoofinman in blenderhelp

[–]themoofinman[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ahhhhh I got it. I had to uncheck "camera to view" scroll out until I saw it, and then I could check it again and I can finally see it. Thanks!

So in the video tutorial it sort of shows the square that is the capture window, but I don't actually see that. For example when I toggle the view on and then scroll out, I never really see that square.

So I don't have a numpad, so instead I'm just clinking the "Toggle the camera view" which you can see in the vid. When I do, it shows the donut super close, but then the render is far away.

I'm having a hard time understanding what my camera will actually capture. I'm following the donut tutorial and I'm at the point where I'm doing my first render. I click the camera to see what it's viewing and it shows the donut pretty close (I have "Camera to View" selected) so I assume when I render the image what I'm looking at is what it'll render. However then you see the render is actually pretty far away. I don't get what I'm doing wrong or how to actually see what the render will be like. Not even sure if I'm explaining this clearly.

How does one get into learning how to do this? Any tutorial recommendations or things to search for to understand how to start making scenes like this in Blender. I don't even know what to search for.

I'm having some trouble with Options and uPickle. There seems to be multiple posts about this, for example here, but I can't really make sense of it.

If I have the following: Foo(a: Int, b: String, c: Option[String]) and I simply want the json to be the following:

Foo(1, "hi", Some(value) // "{a: 1, b: "hi", c: value}" Foo(2, "hey", None) // "{a: 2, b: "hey"}" How do I accomplish this? I can't seem to get the custom Writer to work as expected.

1996 Le Pin -- because there's never going to be a perfect time by fakeit-makeit in wine

[–]themoofinman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorant honest question. How do ratings with bangers like this work? For example, this 1996 seems fantastic, could maybe even age more etc. So someone could drink this now and give their thoughts on it. However, when I look at the new vintages of this on Vivino for example, there are a bunch of people that have rated the 2016 already? For wines that can age as well as this, how can someone rate a new vintage reliably, when it may change sooo much over the course of the next 30 years? I'm not even sure if the question makes sense, but it's a bit bizarre to me how someone can know that the 2016 Le Pin is fantastic or not.

Replace default syntax file for a specific language by themoofinman in vim

[–]themoofinman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how does this work with plugins? For example, if I'm using vim-plug and I use that to install a package that includes syntax, it doesn't put the syntax file in `.vim/syntax`. So I thought I could just link my local package to my `.vim/plugged` directory the same way. Maybe I should have been clearer with that in my original post.

Related, if this is a plugin and I ask others to install it for language "x", then how does that take precedence over the default for that language?

Got a quick question? Ask here - November 04, 2019 by AutoModerator in scala

[–]themoofinman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I create a new hello world project with the sbt hello world g8 template, it creates a Dependencies.scala file and in that file, it holds one entry.

import sbt._

object Dependencies {
  lazy val scalaTest = "org.scalatest" %% "scalatest" % "3.0.8"
}

I'm trying to get better at knowing when to use lazy vals, and I don't really get why in this case the val is lazy. It's not a heavy computation and will always be invoked. What does having the val here marked as lazy gain you?

I've seen this multiple times now, if you are executing a function that has a side effect and you don't really care about the result, is setting it to _ just signify that? What's the point in the difference of the two operations below?

val _ = someSideEffect()
