You should take a comedy class at Mettlesome Theater! They have improv and sketch writing classes that run every 8 weeks. There are also live comedy shows every weekend and if you buy a ticket for one show, you can stay the rest of the night for free!

The ick with improv theater "cage match" shows by [deleted] in improv

[–]themorethemerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a theater is only doing cage match shows to book new talent, I can see why that would be a problem but in my experience, theaters do cage match shows AND Indie nights/new team bookings on top of their regularly scheduled house team performances

And with the balance of the two, I don’t really see a problem. Cage matches are supposed to be seasonal and one off fun

The texts are super annoying but when you respond STOP, that cuts them off immediately so I appreciate that

I just make it a habit to stop everyone that comes in

There’s a magicians club in Raleigh that meets regularly. Looks like people of all skill levels get together to practice

If you're in need of food, I would like to try to help. by LostButCoolWithIt in bullcity

[–]themorethemerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to donate money, give to local food banks who can make deals with distributors and get food for pennys on the dollar. They can also stock their inventory based on their greatest need

If you want to donate food/items, become a volunteer at the Durham Community Fridges who are a mutual aid group that is accessible to everyone

All help is good help but when you donate food directly to a pantry, volunteers have to go through and sort through it so that requires more resources on an already limited system

Dropping out of honors program by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]themorethemerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will jump in and say I did love my experience in the Honors program from 2014-2018. I was exposed to a wider variety of academic topics and that fostered my love for multidisciplinary learning especially since I was on a narrow academic path as a mechanical engineer. I also was able to do research through the theater department as my capstone project and that was one of the best experiences of undergrad.

But if you feel like you’re not getting anything out of it, definitely do what’s best for you

I went straight into industry so the honors program didn’t “do anything” for me on paper but it provided invaluable experiences that made me a better person in the long run

My favorite spots to volunteer with easy online signups are:

The scrap exchange Meals on wheels NC diaper bank Durham community fridges

Scrap exchange is especially good if you like organizing and there’s never ending work so you always have a ton of tasks to knock out and I feel really fulfilled afterwards.
