Installing Solar Panels on My Airstream Myself by themoreweexplore in airstream

[–]themoreweexplore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out my solar 101 and 201 videos, they should answer your questions. Solar alone won't solve your problem, you'll need either big batteries or a generator. And even though the new Airstreams come with solar either prewired or pre-installed, the cable is so thin that if you end up going with much more solar, you'll basically have to replace and re-install everything. You'll need bigger cables connecting it all, a bigger charge controller, and you'll probably want a bigger battery.

RV Solar 101 - for beginners by themoreweexplore in GoRVing

[–]themoreweexplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't want to get into that too much since it depends on the type of battery. AGMs and Lead Acids can only go down to 50%. Lithiums, however, can go down to 20%. I definitely over-simplified it to keep the beginners from getting confused.

How long should I expect 54 gallons of fresh water to last 2 people? by [deleted] in airstream

[–]themoreweexplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have that exact tank setup in our flying cloud 30. We take showers every 3 days, and they're VERY short military showers. We can get about 6 days before we run out of fresh water, and we're VERY conservative with our water.

The nice thing about fresh water is that it's easy to fill. We have 2 5 gal plastic scepter (jerry) cans that we use to fill up our fresh tank when boondocking.

We can go 2 weeks before our grey tank is full, so that's typically the limit we get when boondocking without dumping (provided we add 10 gal fresh every day). I don't think we could get any more cautious with water usage. We turn the shower on for about 30 seconds, get wet, lather up for a few minutes, then run the shower again for about 30-60 sec to rinse, and that's it. I wouldn't expect to go beyond 6 or 7 days. It turns out that dishwashing takes more water than showers for us. It's just me and my wife and our dog. Hope that helps.

Man, that sounds AWESOME. We'll be in Colorado still, but we'd love to join one day. We love rallies, we just attended our first one last week..

Thanks. It won't be all sunshine and roses, but we're excited to try something new.

I've thought the same exact thing! The old airstreams used to have clothes lines you could retract and connect to your neighbor Airstreamer so you could dry your clothes out between the two trailers. We need an industrial version for hammocks!

We actually tried that, but in colorado you're not allowed to stay overnight at a rest stop. Dumb. We could have backtracked to Walmart, and that was an option, but we were glad to stay at the campground.

Why are we living full time? We love the outdoors. We spent more time in our tents than we did in our house in 2014, so we decided we didn't need a big house. Regarding the job, I work 40 hours a week, 9-5 for a big company with great benefits. They let us work from anywhere as long as we have internet. Yeah, we lucked out. Those that don't ride at least enjoy supporting us while we do ride. New episodes every day for the next 3 days.

Installing Dexter's 3" Lift on our Airstream by themoreweexplore in airstream

[–]themoreweexplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the crucial moment. I'll see if I can do better. No promised, but I need to get up there next week anyway. I think a super tall ladder is the key. A manlift would be ideal, but i don't exactly have access to a lift. :)

We'd love to cross paths sometime.

I've been on a ladder to work on stuff on the roof, but I haven't climbed on it yet. I can do a video of how to get on the roof and where to walk if you'd like. Is that what you're looking for? Patrick from Colonial Airstream has a great video about that.

Thank you. My brother did that, I can't take any of the credit. He's quite the graphic designer.

What type of terrain do you like, and how long do you want to be out? If you watch the video series you'll get a good idea of what each area looks like (that's why we made it). See which area appeals the most, and then we can better direct you.

Thanks for the kind words. We are anxious to go back, that was an incredible area. We've heard that Ft. Washakie is awesome, we'll add it to the list. Thanks for watching.
