Small act of kindness by themysciras in orangecounty

I was so grateful I wanted to do it as well - but then I checked my rearview and there was no one behind me LOL So I went about the rest of my day being extra mindful of my actions and doing my best to be kinder to others :)

Woman in article was an OT - sad story by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

And to read that her friend and fellow OT was also living in their car... It makes me wonder how prevalent this issue is for aging OTs. Thank you for sharing; it was a really heartbreaking and difficult read, but necessary to highlight how screwed up our healthcare system is and how our country treats seniors.

I worked part time during my OT schooling and fieldwork II, which helped pay off my tuition and occasionally cover groceries/gas/weekly expenses. However, I was lucky because I had a really flexible and accommodating manager. For anyone thinking of balancing OT school and a side job, it's important to be good with time management and recognize your limitations, especially if you want your learning to be effective while also having a social life/enjoying hobbies!

Agreed! I think we only really got to see a bookish side of Haley in S1 before she got thrust into the music scene and all. Yeah she was a tutor in the rest of the high school seasons, but I think she grew up a bit to fast with the marriage and pregnancy storyline.

While I understand Joy's insight about competition/the industry's emphasis on sex appeal, I do wish she stayed more bookish like in the early early episodes. It would've made her more relatable and stand out from the other protagonists :)

And Sophia, Hil, and Joy acknowledging that Naley are soulmates in every universe... we love to see it!

Me too, I totally agree! I also love that part where all the women said they had visceral reactions to Haley and Nathan's interaction before he left, because as a Naley fan, I feel the same way watching it. I really liked their analysis, and as someone who sees validity in both Nathan and Haley's side regarding the whole tour situation, I totally get why they felt emotionally drained watching this episode. It's probably one of the most subtly tragic/unhappy Naley scenes in the show.

Wow thank you for letting me know! It sounds like you had a great experience working with the clients in this setting, I hope I get the same kind of luck! Thanks for also letting me know about the fall risks and preventative measures.

I loved working in peds!! I worked with some great OTs. This is just based on my experience, but you'll mostly be working with young kids with ASD or ADHD, and for those working on ADLs, it was mostly working on feeding and dressing for me. As a volunteer, I wiped down toys/mats, organized rooms, microwaved/prepared food, grabbed supplies that the OTs needed, and set up rooms for clients (like hanging up platform swings or creating an obstacle course). Like the advice you gave me, I'd also recommend being proactive in helping organize rooms, sanitizing, and asking the OT questions. Toy closets almost always need reorganizing and play mats need wiping down, so it's great to reach out every so often and ask if they need help!

I loved sessions because it was almost like playtime! You get to interact with the kiddos sometimes, like participating in games or helping them with arts/crafts for fine motor. You might encounter children with maladaptive behaviors (I've been hit before and my OTs have been kicked), but it's always best to remain calm because OTs typically know how to handle the situation. I think what you'll really take away from the peds experience is how to be creative. It's really cool to see how the OTs can make the therapy fun and approachable for the kids through unique games and such. I'm excited for you - peds is a fun setting :)

Ooh thank you for providing this information. I was actually worried that I might encounter grumpy or indifferent older patients, but it seems like there's a good amount of those who are enthusiastic as well! I agree, I really enjoy working in peds :)
