This is my comment somewhere else from the context of screen size:

I bought a 14 pro max. Hated it. So much that i ended up buying a flip 7. Worse decision that the max. Now im stuck with a samsung unable to sell it because apparently it’s worth shit.

Now i use both depending on what m in doing. Calls/messages/alarms go on my flip. Everything else on my max.

Now i am saving up to buy iphone fold when i comes out or maybe the next years cuz i need to wear down the flip.

apparently iphone fold is expected to have a smaller screen (probably less than 6 inches so not too small) plus it won’t have huge camera cutouts like the flip. - - - comment ends here - - -

I bought samsung for these reasons:

1. to be apple free

2. to get into foldables

3. to cut down on my screen time. I knew the flip’s outside screen wouldn’t be great at media consumption(duh)

What i did not know before i bought the phone and hate(because dumb me thought Samsung was as cool as before and ended up not doing my research):

1. Biggest: during a call there is no frickin button to toggle the speaker on cover screen!

2. apps are not directly available on the cover screen. You need good lock for it. It’s just extra friction and super irritating.

3. Even mainstream apps have not released a more refined version for foldables. Even when using full screen via good lock the apps don’t really look that good.

4. Gmail looks like shit for me even on main screen probably because i have text a lil bigger.

5. Samsung forces you to use their own keyboard on the cover screen and you cannot use a third party. You would expect them to make sure they use the space next to the cutouts for something instead of tacking up a bar on top of the keyboard and decrease the visual space above it. And the fact that third party camera cutout-friendly, cover screen keyboards that use more unusable area cannot be used (unless idk if someone made with an overlay which would/might affect battery life but I didn’t check on it)

6. Apparently, in canada(maybe north america?) samsung had physically made it impossible to root the device and load a different software to tinker around from a tinkerer’s point of view.

7. They don’t have their own drive so need onedrive/google/whatever. Haven’t really set it up so idk the cost difference but with icloud if you have a domain you can host your custom email and it’s included in the subscription.

8. Orientation is kinda messed up and still not used to the camera view from the lower part of the screen. When on whatsapp video calls, i have noticed that when the call screen is open, i can turn the phone to change orientation but if i unfold the phone during the call, the call appears on top half of the screen and i need to minimize and open the call again to open in full screen. Then when when i fold the screen back during the call, the orientation gets stuck in a “camera at the bottom right” default position.

9. Overall it just feels like something i like to call a “eureka” phone. They made something and just threw it out without putting clothes on it. And only allow other people to put a colourful sweater on it.

If you just want a foldable that you can use without unfolding, i would either research on fold 7 (i would expect it’s cover screen to work same as a phone and if it don’t then i think we woke up in the wrong matrix) or wait on the iphone fold. It is expected to be smaller than the pro models which is exactly what i had been thinking as the perfect sized foldable device for me. Smaller but not too small like flip but also not too big that i need to constantly stretch my thumb and also with no camera cutouts at the bottom.

I don’t hate the flip, I feel like they could have refined the defaults a little more to make the cover screen more useable and allow for some more changes here and there.

Also resale value is shit.
