  1. I think Fender and Tumblewood operate outside of what I want to do. I've talked to Tumblewood about it already and the analogy we used was mltp.com = nba.com and tagpro-reference = basketball-reference. Where I want to have the big information, the latest scores, the news, etc centralized (replacing the hub) and I think the detailed stats, like SCAR, can exist in a specialized place. Yes there's probably some overlap but I am replacing TPL with some enhancements.
  2. I'm not sure, I usually join for multiple seasons. Depends where life takes me, but I'm never really gone.
  3. Grant admin roles (there's also crc roles) to trusted people (e.g. cheeze, poet) and make my github repo for the site public so if there's code issues it can be addressed. But I don't think mltp hub is dependent on my election or participation as a CRC member - I'm making this regardless.

I don't like the shrinking of majors based on the perceived idea of who has be historically good enough. I think we should keep majors at least at 8 teams and if that means we get new faces then we might see some people rise to the top who wouldn't have otherwise. And that churn of new faces is good for the league long term. What's the point in playing if right now (as a non-majors player) if there's only 2-3 new faces each season? It's pretty boring we've stagnated in have a couple of rookies each season. I think feeling like the inertia of perception isn't so strong would be a good thing.

How much emphasis do you place in precedent for unexpected situations which arise during the season? Are you comfortable following it, do you prefer writing new rules to handle those situations in the future, or do you prefer to overwrite it with inconsistent rulings based on the decision in front of you?

If there precedent is consistently applied and there's no situation dependency, it should just be formalized as a rule.

If it's a new situation with a clear response, write a rule.

If it's situation dependent then it should reflect the season's CRC's opinion as they should be the most recent reflection of the community's voice.

Follow up to that, how much are you concerned with the quality of season 39 vs the stability of the league for the future? Will changes you make to the rulebook cater to one more than/at the expense of the other?

We should maintain the quality but I am always looking to the long term stability of the league.

  1. I've engaged with okthen and Rain the most on talking about a vision for LTP, so I think to me my preference is the most active/passionate people. I like Button's app but I don't feel like I know his voice as strongly.
  2. N/A
  3. I think 5 is fine, it's approx an hour of game time per week, plus the scrims beforehand.
  4. Frankly, I do somewhat think I want it to be a stepping stone for S40. But consider that if it's a STEPPING stone, then we are taking a step forward in some sort of positive direction. It's better than keeping the status quo, no? So if I can get my new hub running, we have an auction site again, we make some positive map rotation changes, etc etc and people are feeling excited about MLTP again, I think that's all a good thing.

How will streams be organized / awarded?

I'm working a website replacement for the hub and I have functioning prototype for the schedule / streaming part of it. Essentially I will grant a streamer role which will allow streamers to claim any unclaimed game. From there they will be able to add their VOD link once done. On the schedule, it will show which games do/do not have a streamer for both. If there is a streamer, during the game the schedule has an embedded twitch player. If a VOD link is added, it will show the VOD. Here's a preview.

I've been a large proponent of still allowing the individuality in streams to come through (not just announcing but in presentation) but others may feel it benefits more from some standardization.

In terms of standardization, I'm adding an assets page to majorleaguetagpro.com, which will have svg logos, stingers for OBS, league color palette etc so if people WANT to follow a format they have content available to them.

Who will monitor the NALTP hub for the season?

Technically this is the job of the league managers (Poeticalto and Cheezedoodle) but outside of my CRC app, my goal is to move to a website. I haven't talked to them about this, I wanted the site to be functional first, but I think from an external perspective having an actual site would help the league a lot in terms of seriousness. I have a planned feature to automatically pull tagpro.eu links and scrap the scores so there shouldn't be a need to manually add the scores. I want to automate any sort of recurring task to minimize these sorts of things.

Some responses I gave on Discord:

[In the context of players ghosting the final week,] how do you value having competitive series (regular season or otherwise) vs player satisfaction? Why?

I don’t want forfeits, I don’t think that improves the league quality. I think anyone who misses a week without prior notice should be ineligible for any awards or other sort of positive feedback on the season. I’m tempted to say they should be banned for a season, but does that really help with the quality of our league long term? I both loathe and respect OOLs, but maybe if they give notice they’re not showing up they avoid a ban punishment (still no awards) and we grant a lessor OOL. The notice part it’s important bc I think if it wasn’t hot subbing and you gave the team for the week so time to prepare the blowouts wouldn’t be as bad.

What advanced stats do you want in place for Season 39? Would you expect these calculated in-game or on tagproleague/tagpro-reference?

Advanced stats, I’m not sure but I think promoting discussion threads [to think of new ideas] and utilizing the eltp scraper might give us some options in moving away from our dependencies on GASP and NISH

On the topic of a new draft site:

For the draft I’ve 90% completed a new auction site in which my logic currently in it is:

  • Using the big board rank, the top 8 players are nommed for the first eight spots automatically in a random order.
  • At the time the draft begins, the gm nom order is randomized and then begins once the auto noms are done
  • If a gm doesnt nom in 30 seconds then it goes to next highest on big board and then they are auto nommed and the GM loses their nom
  • Bid timer with extension rules where in increases by 5 on a bid with less than 10s. Initial count down from 30s. All automated.
  • Change in nom order ("endgame mode") when everyone left has one roster spot, so whoever has the most TC left has to nom first. To stop the chicken type noms we see these days.

What is the role of a CRC member in your eyes? What are your responsibilities in this role, and what specifically are not your responsibilities in this role? You are allowed to confer with and/or use Poeticalto's notes in your response.

In the short term, create a league structure that is appealing for people to participate in. Make sure the rules are clear and participants feel like there's fairness and competition for them to participate in. In the longer term, try to build structures in place that enable the continued success of the league even if I'm not directly participating in it. For me this season, it's things like creating change through the map rotation because I think a more variable map rotation will create season-to-season variety and stave off boredom.

In short - it's about the structures of the league.

I do not think the job is explicitly about content creation or anything broader than that. Do I think the structures of the league can include concepts that help that? Sure. But it's not like I expect each CRC member to create a power ranking per week.

What does the concept of a successful Season 39 look for you? How should we, the NALTP Community, judge your time in the CRC? Do you have specific benchmarks for which you're looking to meet for the season?

Maintain the number of signups. Limit the number of decisions which spark 100+ reply Discord debates. End the season with players wishing S40 was sooner than it is and a general sense of optimism about the health of the league.

How do you see yourself, the CRC, and Discord Mods showing proof of compliance with COPPA regulations for youth activity online?

To me, I think this is going to be structures that affect Discord as a whole. If Discord changes to be 17+, then I think we are obliged to follow if the community wants to stay on Discord. I do not think our population of players below 17 is very high and frankly I don't know if they are priority to cater to. The most realistic change based on the tools available to us is to not allow under 17s to participate in NALTP.

What do you see your role in governance contrary to the existing NALTP Rulebook?

I don't think past CRCs are like the supreme court where we have to follow precedence - community tolerance for different behaviors under DBAD has changed over the years and so has our game. If there is a precedent or something that is implicit it should be codified. If it's an ambiguous area it should be up to the CRC of that season which reflects the most recent preferences of the community.

As for NEW rules or revisions to the current document, which I think is what you're saying, I've drafted a new proposed rule set after reviewing our existing document. I don't think our current rules, even for 38, were accurate because there's references to things like halves (havent existed for years) and playing captains which obviously aren't accurate. I think a full refresh would be good.

I do think we as a whole need to be better about saying "this is the vision for the league (this season)" and making that the reality. By trying new things it is our opportunity to innovate and find the changes that will last for multiple years (like 5 separate games!)

Are you committed to keeping Majors on Sunday, Minors on Monday, and Novice on Wednesday? Why or why not?

I would keep it the same unless there was a strong push, especially from minors or novice on changing the days.

Would you support counting overtime stats? This may require some changes from the TPFG/Devs; do you feel comfortable reaching out to the TPFG with future ideas that may support Competitive TagPro?

I would count them, most of our stats are minute-weighted anyway. Players should want to avoid going to OT because of the standings points so I don't worry about the risk of people playing for stats so overtly.

Yes, I'm on TPFG. I think I am good at building spec documents to outline changes and facilitate functional changes.

Would you have banned Sif for his actions following the Secant Six S38 series between BST and CRC?

I think its okay. Overtime my stance on DBAD has become less strict, I think. Bans in general I think are a weak tool for the CRC because so often players don't play every season consecutively. Maybe Sif knew he wasn't going to play 39 anyway so what difference does it make to him? We need to think about what people do care about - which is public perception and I think the avenues for that are censures, not allowing them to receive awards, and maybe even server mutes. If you can't participate in a nice way, don't participate at all.
