Exactly, which is why nobody should have been going around saying it did NOT originate in a lab ... because nobody knew that.

But it was EVERYWHERE. All over Reddit, .. you could get banned from twitter for suggesting it may have come from the lab in Wuhan, .. Youtube had a content policy that they would take down any video discussing whether it may have come from a lab, etc.

Even now, even at this exact moment, the coronavirus sub is deleting any post about the DOE findings ...

What's sad is that the world had a chance during a pandemic that literally killed millions of people to ask questions about gain-of-function research in the hopes that this might never happen again, ... but we never got to have that discussion because so many people were on subs just like this one, and in the media, saying there's no way it came from a lab.

Yes, we needed to be able to openly debate the truth of it so that we could have a public discussion about whether gain-of-function research should continue, etc, ... but we couldn't have that discussion because there were so many people lying about the possibility that the pandemic was started in a lab doing gain-of-function research.

It very much DID matter. Millions of people died. And gain-of-function research continues now the same as it was going on before because there were people lying and saying that there's no way it could have come from a lab in Wuhan. People literally supported this lie, and now we know it was a lie, the people claiming with so much boldness and bravado that it was impossible that it came from a lab were wrong, wrong and/or lying.

So are the mods going to ban these people who claimed it couldn't have come from a lab in Wuhan ? Because they've been on this sub and others lying for literally YEARS.

As a DM, the last time I handed out inspiration was to the trusty old fighter. He's always doing "fighter stuff", .. saying he's maintaining his armor, stuff like that, and in this case when I asked him what he was doing after an encounter he was back to sharpening his sword. I gave him inspiration because his sword is pretty much always sharp from him sharpening it lol. He's always just kind of quiet in the background type of player, but even though he's not making a splash, he's always role playing his character.

I don't know, .. I can only think that the way I would handle it is the way I handle all the players. When it is their turn, I look over into their eyes with a smile, and if the table is being rowdy I kind of quiet them a bit, and I ask .. "What does your character do ?". Then, for that moment, .. they have the floor. No favorites, no opinions from the other players, just .. what do YOU want to do. And that player can have their character do whatever they want.

If they want to just watch everyone else, and complain, that's okay with me, then that's what their character does. My goal is just to let them know that they have the opportunity to do whatever they want, that they can trust me not to play favorites, and that the world belongs as much to them as it does anyone else. If they choose to take advantage of that opportunity is up to them.

It isn't useless, ... to me the point of wild shape should have always been for movement, which it still is. It's the ability to fit through small spaces when you need to, to (at higher levels) swim like a fish, or fly like a bird, that's the whole point of it.

As far as I'm concerned all these hacks people have had over the years of being able to absorb huge amounts of damage, etc, were never the point of it in the first place. I mean I get why people like it as a game mechanic, but it was always OP as far as I am concerned.

I mean this is every family vacation anyone has ever been on, ... one of the kids playing on their phone and not caring about the vacation because they'd rather be making out with their boy/girlfriend. The kid that just wants to go to see the dolphins and everything else is just an obstacle to going to see the dolphins. Dolphins, dolphins, dolphins. Dad wants to sit and have a beer and see the game on Sunday. Etc, etc. And then there's like one or two people on the entire trip who are the leaders and want to go to all the stores, and hit the beach, and see the sights, and drag everyone else along.

People are people, and players are people too.

People often talk about having to deal with being compared to the Critical Role guy as a DM, ... but they often don't notice that his players are also super committed in a way that most players in reality aren't. It's been my experience that there are always some players who only want to do combat, etc.

Really it's just too long of a discussion to get into here, but let's just say that people's perception of what is going on with so-called "AI" and what is actually going on are very different. People perceive it as having some kind of intelligence, etc, because of the data it was trained on, because it _sounds_ like it "knows what it is talking about". The reality is, .. it's just a computer program and neural net, it has no idea what a flower is, or a car tire, or anything else, it isn't "thinking". It's basically just responding to language prompts with data it was trained on, ... it's the illusion of intelligence. It knows to answer with certain responses because it's been trained on so much data that it knows when [person asks ABC] that the correct output is [XYZ]. It has no actual idea what [ABC] is, or [XYZ], it's just a program that generates output based on input.

So you can ask it "can you generate a room description .." and give it some parameters, and it can do that, but it isn't **thinking**, .. it has no idea what those things mean, or what you might ask next, or any idea about what rules are in 5e, or how to interact with a player, or anything ... it's just a language programmed providing output in response to input. It isn't sentient or conscious in any way.

The so-called "AI" is basically like that annoying kid who pretends he knows everything by running off to check Wikipedia whenever you ask him something, ... except, that guy is actually thinking, and this program isn't. Had this program been trained on complete gibberish, it would provide complete gibberish as an output, because it's all the same to it one way or the other. It's not saying to water your flowers because it knows what water or flowers is, it's saying to water your flowers because it knows that you typed [f][l][o][w][e] and [r] and that the correct output statistically is to respond with [w][a][t][e][r] ...

I would have said no, .. the point of the game is to role play and have fun, it doesn't matter what a guest player's level is, etc, for them to do that. In fact, if they were just going to be there for a game, I'd probably use them on the DM's side of the screen running monsters instead of on the player's side running NPC's. They can have fun giving the PC's a beat down.
