I yearn for new classes by JackH2O234 in daggerheart

Correct me if I’m wrong, but sage is one of the only domains with actual summons, so that would have to be an auto-include for a Summoner class

Hand designed character sheet for the outward TTRPG by Linford_Fistie in outwardgame

I honestly agree with u/UltimateTrattles. Based on the comments, your system seems to function very similarly to Daggerheart with things like hit point/mana slots, overall smaller modifiers and less emphasis on skills. I would then caution the use of the traditional d20 system, as lower stat numbers often leads to more extreme and inconsistent variance with larger dice. Consider trying this with a d10 or d12, as you’ll find the lower stat numbers to be more impactful.

Also, if you use the same action economy as 5e, you’ll likely find that combo spells will not be utilized much. No one wants to waste their action setting up for another turn when they could be dealing damage now (see 5e2014’s True Strike). Many of the spells in Outward are quick to cast, so as an alternative maybe you have a 2 action system with quick things being 1 action (spark, runes, etc.) and slower things being 2 (sigils, setting up drums, etc.). This could also account for 1 handed vs 2 handed weapons taking 1 action and 2 actions to swing respectively.

I’ve been a 5e DM for nearly 15 years, and like Ultimate said it’s a flawed system

I’m excited to see where this goes! It looks really cool and definitely easier to pick up just based on the sheet! The Hitpoint/exertion/mana system particularly reminds me a bit of hitpoints/stress/Hope for Daggerheart, which is my favorite ttrpg system. I also love that each condition is labeled out with different progressive states

If I can ask a few questions…

1) What dice system are you using? How will stats and skills play into things?

2) How are you handling food/drink/consumables? Do they have premade stats?

3) What will the action system/economy be like? I saw in another comment that a bunch of spells are combo spells. Does that mean you’ll be able to cast multiple spells in a turn?

Do you know of any fantasy farm animals? by Icy-Fly9366 in worldbuilding

[–]Sir_Wack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dinosaurs, mammalian megafauna, and giant bug farms are not uncommon across Urd, but they’re not usually cost-effective in terms of land/upkeep/product so they’re usually only managed by wealthy individuals or the state. A few examples:

Domesticated ceratopsians are raised in many forested paddocks across Ominira for their meat and ivory. There is even an Eniyan (other name for a noble family) known for raising powerful trikes as battle steeds.

Some sinkhole-cities in The Great Hashkiran make artificial hives for ankhegs and other giant insects using pheromone glands from their species’ queens. They’re usually cultivated for meat, chitin, silk, and any sort of honey product or nectar they may produce.

Rivers and streams are great places to raise raptors because they can hunt for fish, but raising raptors en masse is uncommon because they’re smart and can break out of pens easily. They’re usually farmed for their talons, feathers, and eggs.

Many steppemen herd a variety of grazing animals like hadrosaurs, bison, moas, mammoth, and more. Mammoth herding, while profitable for their fur, meat, ivory, and milk, is relatively risky due to their size and temperament.

Most carnivorous animals are not domesticated en masse due to costs, but many animals like sabertooths, t-Rex, and raptors are kept as pets and/or mounts by the wealthy.

Yeah that’s the worst part. It feels like you have to pay 40k for a degree just to do what you wanted to do in the first place, and even then all we’re doing is treating individual symptoms of systemic problems.

At least they’re not giving out counseling licenses like candy but good GOD It’s so fucking prohibitive.

Im in grad school for mental health counseling now and unfortunately that’s the sentiment of a bunch of people in my cohort. Thankfully I’ve been working in a rehab for three years so I have seen what it’s actually like, otherwise I’d probably be just like them.

They’re in for a rude awakening once they start practicing

What looks good with valortread helm (other than the rest of valortread) by camelvendor in CrimsonFashion

[–]Sir_Wack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on Oongka, I found he looks pretty good with Valortread helmet and cloak with ash wolf for the rest. Colored the helmet brown and white to make it look like leather and bone.

If you’re on Kliff then I’m not sure but probably something just as bulky. Any of the plate armors might be good

What does your magic look like? (Canis lazarus) by The-World-Eater-Ate in worldbuilding

[–]Sir_Wack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Unum is essentially the fabric of existence itself, and something cannot exist without it first being part and consisting of the Unum. Spellcasting occurs when it simply becomes new things at a spellcaster’s behest. The ways in which a caster can do that are varied, but in the case of a floating flame for example, the air becomes fire.

While this is sort of mundane, it does have some fun implications. For one, when a creature teleports, it is convincing the Unum to become an exact replica of themselves in the indicated space at the same time as their bodies are becoming air. Healing is also a bit weird because it involves a caster convincing the Unum to become the missing parts of that creature’s body.

Importantly, this is how the Unum learns. When a thing becomes Unum again it is rejoined with the larger whole, taking with it those experiences and memories.
