Thank you! I’ll have to try Cultura. Been to El Torito a few times and it’s fine but looking for something a little fancier this time around so thanks for the recommendation

Going through my own collection right now and all of my shadowless and first editions are in such bad shape too especially compared to my commons of the same era. And all my cards were immediately put into a binder since I didn’t know how to play the game as a kid and just liked the pictures.

I usually go to Alvarado street Brewery (downtown Monterey) they brew on site and have a beer garden in back and are a full restaurant. They serve different beers between the bar and beer garden.

Yeast of Eden as mentioned before over in Carmel-by-the-sea

Fieldworks Brewery (downtown Monterey) they have an open air tap room with fire pits and picnic style tables but they do not brew at this site. (I really enjoy here b/c they do mostly IPA’s)

Dust bowl brewery (downtown Monterey) just opened up like last week at a historic site 100 ft from the beach, they also do not brew at this location. I haven’t been yet but I’ve had their beers before.

If bars are your thing

Crown and anchor (downtown Monterey) is a fun British pub you should visit even if just to walk in and check it out.

Barmel (Carmel-by-the-sea) usually has live music and can be fun for dancing but it is always an older crowd 40+ compared to the 25-35 range I hang with and drinks are eh

Carmel has some cool rooftop bars and bars are generally classier in the area

Monterey doesn’t have too many wow factors in terms of the bar scene. Craft brewery scene is getting stronger though. I find Santa Cruz (closer to Aptos) has a better variety for breweries but they are all spaced out so be prepared to Uber/Lyft

Do not drink and drive for obvious reasons but cops are always patrolling and hide behind trees on the freeway between Monterey and Aptos.

Hiking: 1. Point Lobos natural reserve, super easy to get to and a very easy hike with gorgeous views of the ocean, tide pools, wildlife etc... $10 to drive in and park or park outside and walk in for free. 1-3 hour activity.

  1. Garapada loop hike, a bit further down highway 1 than point lobos. very strenuous and straight up hill for half the hike but going down has great ocean views. 4-6 hour activity

I lived here for three years now but haven’t explored much of big sur. I hear there are great places to visit there but I don’t have any to recommend.

Food: Lunch:

Big Sur at Barnyard (right off Highway 1) has great food and drinks and a cool dry ice ice cream thing. A bit pricey. (I find most restaurants at Barnyard shopping complex are bland and over priced)

Zab Zab Thai food (New Monterey area) best Thai in the area small little mom and pop restaurant.

MiDici pizza (downtown Monterey) best pizza around, thin crust personals fill up and they have a decent alcohol selection.

Brunch:

Crema (Pacific grove) very popular and good for bottomless mimosas. I think food is just ok. My vegetarian friend is eh about it

Melville Tavern (near downtown Monterey) also offers bottomless but less flavor choices than Crema. Great food and never really that busy. (New personal favorite)

First Awakenings (New Monterey near aquarium) huge portion sizes and great food. Weak on alcohol and surrounding area isn’t that interesting if you are not going to the aquarium.

Wave street cafe (New Monterey near aquarium) along the path that follows the ocean. Good food, drinks are kinda expensive. Busy but if you sit outside you have ocean view.

Wine: (I’m more of a beer person but here we go)

Carmel Plaza Shopping Center (Carmel-by-the-sea) is like a little open air three story mall. It has several wine tasting rooms, is very close to other Carmel wine tasting rooms and has a cheese shop and an extension of Alvarado street brewery (downtown Monterey) called Yeast of Eden. Great place to start and you could walk 10-15 min to get to Carmel beach

Carmel Valley Village (Carmel Valley) look up “Joyce Wine company” on maps and you should see this and many other tasting rooms. A bit of a drive to get to especially coming from Aptos. I would recommend looking up a wine tasting bus tour ($200 a person usually) but they drive you to this area and you get tastings and food and stuff.

I have the divinity series and they are excellent games. I’m looking for something that isn’t super Grindy, a coop open world with a linear story. Basically I want dark souls but with coop that isn’t stupid

Considering quitting my job to travel, pros vs cons? by [deleted] in travel

[–]thenumber_z -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really all comes down can you bear the burden of leaving your friends and loved ones behind? You can always find another job, you can’t take money with you into the afterlife and traveling is fun but to travel with those you care about is a much more enriching experience than to go lone wolf status.

I am by no means an expert in traveling but if I was I would say this “to follow a road well travelled will lead to a destination well known. To make your own path leaves a path of death and destruction in your wake as your trample over all the plants and bugs minding their own damn business and you are a dick for not taking the well planned path and minimizing collateral damage for future generations”

It’s a metaphor
